Error code: Status illegal instruction

Hello,

I would like some help with an issue that occurs while i'm watching a youtube video on my laptop. It happens a lot lately and is very annoying. So, while i'm watching a video, the page stops working and the message "oops something went wrong" appears on my screen along with the error code "system illegal instruction". Refreshing the page and clearing my history-cache-cookies, as suggested, doesn't help, as the page works after i do these things but after a few minutes crushes again.

Any help on what to do with this matter will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

    Hello ChrysaMaslarli,

Thank you for updating me that information. Have you made any changes recently? When was the last time it was working properly? Kindly try the methods below if it helps.

Make sure to backup first your Google Chrome Bookmarks

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/77858-impor...

    1. Turn off hardware acceleration

    Open Chrome> Click 3 dots > Settings

Expand Advanced > Select System on the left side > Turn off "Use hardware acceleration when available"

    Restart Chrome

    1. Disable or Uninstall Chrome extensions

Open Chrome > Click 3 dots > More tools > Extensions

Kindly try to temporary turn off or remove Extensions

Restart Chrome then Please try again

If it doesn't work, You may need to consider performing a Reset of Google Chrome.

Open Chrome then Click 3 dots > Settings

Expand Advanced > Select Reset and Cleanup

Restore settings to their original default values > Select Reset Settings

    Click Reset

Kindly let me know if this helps or if you have any further concerns.

    Sincerely

    John DeV

It feels odd replying to my own reply here but i did eventually get a solution. My issue was with incompatible ram. I mistakenly Purchased and Intel verified set while running amd. What can i say, this was my first computer build. I simply slowed the ram down by a mere 200mhz. Instead of 3600 I’m running it at 3400. This solved the ram instability issue which was the root cause for me. I don’t know what other causes are possible so i can’t say of this might solve anyone else’s problems but thought it was worth posting. Best wishes all!

i have also been having the same problem. however i also get random blueskreen. it started a few weeks ago and i cant for the life of me figure out why. tried reinstaling windows 10. getting tech support from pc repair wich may have helped for a short while ''it seems to be random'' however its still here.

i have even tried a fully clean install of windows 10 with no saved data. still the same

my games also crash at random with the only info i could get is ''fatal error'' somtimes it even goes to blueskreen and restarts.

i have not been able to ''force'' it into a crash. it and run a few mins on desktop just at idle and crash or stay on a whole day with no problems. same for games it can run something hard to run for hours with no problem or a few mins...

i have even tried letting it run hot for a while and than as cold as i can (below 50 c) in games like ark, arma, war thunder and even bloody minecraft yet it still crashes at random.

the blueskreen started at the same time as the STATUS_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION from google

could it be something in a windows update that is broken?

or is it the hardware? (mortherbord, cpu, power, heatskink, ssd) is all brand new, and the rest worked just fine in my old rig with the only problem being the old run ran a bit hot

hope someone knows whats going on and can help

Thanks for your time and brain Power. hope you have better luck than me :D

    Hi,

I use the same issue with Google Chrome and also Microsoft Edge Chromium on some WS2008 R2 / Citrix XenApp Server.

Initially those servers was running very old version of Google Chrome 75.x... somewhe in the past (a year ago) Chrome just stop to work properly with a error: "STATUS_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION"

Then, we have updated to a newer version of Chrome 85.x and this issue still there :(

We have give an alternative to users to use Internet Explorer 11 (not the better choice, but it was working). Since few weeks we have more problems with IE due to unsupported websites.

I tested again with Chrome 88.x and the problem still there... I get the idea to use MS Edge (Chromium) that use basically the same code but in a totally different directory, registry keys, etc. And I was surprized to get exactly the same error code :

    "STATUS_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION"

I would like testing the option : Open Chrome > Click 3 dots > More tools > Extensions

Kindly try to temporary turn off or remove Extens

But it's impossible because this error, I cannot open setting section. I get the error code also.

These tests give me more information. It's impossible that 2 applications got the same problem... Then the issue is coming from something different, common thing. Windows, DLL missing, etc ?  I known I'm talking about WS2008 where it's old and outdated, but necessary in my case.

Well actually the situation wasn't solved, as i realised soon after following the steps suggested. I have no  idea what the porblem is. Therefore, i quit using chrome and started using Mozilla Firefox. The problem hasn't re-occured. But every now and then i check youtube on chrome and the same error appears.
