"Bluetooth is turned off"

Hi there,

So I was playing a game on my PC at around 6:30 pm (now 7:41 pm) and I got a notification to install a Windows 10 update. So I downloaded the update, my PC restarted and when it launched back up, my Bluetooth device(s) were disconnected. With the message showing "Bluetooth is turned off" under the Bluetooth & other devices settings tab.

The device that I use most, and that is disconnected, is the WH-1000XM3 from Sony.

Before the update the headphones were working fine, in fact, my headphones actually work on my laptop but somehow don't work on my main PC.

Is there any way to fix this? I've heard people say to unplug their PC and plug it back in but this hasn't worked. People have also said to download new drivers but there are no Bluetooth-related drivers on the Dell website, or at least there was one but I downloaded it and it didn't change anything.

So, it seems that your Bluetooth service is not running. Please follow the following instructions:

    1. Press Windows Logo + R and then type “services.msc” in there and click on Ok.
    2. Find "Bluetooth support service" on the list and double-click on it.
    3. Find the General Tab and from there, change the startup type to Automatic. (If it's not)
    4. Then click on Log On Tab and choose “This Account”. Type here your account name or browse to find your account name. (The account that you are currently logged in with)
    5. Please remove both passwords fields and click on Ok.
    6. Restart your PC and try again.

If that doesn't work please tell me the model number of your motherboard or Bluetooth Dongle.

Hi Navid, I couldn't unpair the device as the button is completely grayed out and doesn't allow me to connect or remove the device.

I tried to run the Bluetooth troubleshooter and the following shows up:

    Device does not have Bluetooth

Bluetooth is not available on this device. Please try using an external adapter to add Bluetooth capability to this computer.

Not sure why this occurs? My Bluetooth was working fine before updating Windows 10.

    Hi David,

I'm having the same issue. I followed the steps and still Bluetooth is turned off. I downloaded all the Bluetooth drivers and still nothing.

    Any input for me?

    Hi Navid,

I went through you directions above. Unfortunately, in step 3, the startup type is greyed out and cannot be switched away from Manual. Similarly, in step 4, all fields in the Log On tab are greyed out and I can't change the default settings.

    Kind regards,

    Jeremy

Hello, I am Navid, and I am an Independent Advisor. I will do my best to help you.

Here are a few suggestions for you: First, unpair the device if it is still paired by following these steps:

    Open Settings.

    Click on Devices.

Click on Bluetooth & other devices.

    Select the peripheral.

    Click the Remove device button.

Click the Yes button to confirm.

Then put your headset on discovery mode and pair it again. Here you could find out how to put it on discovery mode:

    https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/wh1000xm3/v1/en/...;.

If that doesn't work, you could try Bluetooth troubleshooting on Windows 10 by following this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix...

    (Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter section)

    Best,

    Navid Dariya
