Stylus hovers, but doesn't click on screen

I've got an Acer Spin 5 running windows 10, which came with its own stylus (non Bluetooth, Acer "Active Stylus").

Prior to recent updates, the pen was running relatively normally. After doing the first of a long line of updates recently, the pen stopped working.

The cursor will show on the screen, and changes if the buttons are pressed/held down for a long time, but it will not "click" on anything on screen. I have put in a fresh battery, changed the nib, checked the drivers and even did a reset on the device and still the screen will not write when the pen touches the screen.

It can definitely recognize the pen is near, for when the setting "ignore touch input when using my pen" is on, the touchscreen will stop moving from finger touches when putting the pen close enough to the screen for the cursor to pop up.

Any help is appreciated

    Greetings Melixies,

My name is Carlo, I'm an Independent Advisor and community member like you.

I am also using Windows 10. Let us work together to sort this out.

Here's the steps you can try.

    Press Windows Key + X

    Go to Device Manager

Look for Human Interface Device expand it

Look for the driver of your Stylus Pen

    Right click then uninstall it.

Restart your device and check if issue persist.

I hope the information above helps, let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    With Warm Regards,

There is no stylus driver listed on the manufacturer website (Acer Spin 5 - model SP513-52N).

The update has been done, but the stylus still only hovers and does not click/draw on screen.

    Good Day Melixies,

I appreciate your swift response, what is the manufacturer and model of your laptop? please go to the manufacturers website and download the Stylus pen driver.

If issue persist you can perform repair upgrade this will re-install the Windows without affecting your files and apps. This will repair and replace any corrupted system files.

Step 1: Download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

    Step 2: Run MediaCreationTool.exe.

Step 3: Choose "Upgrade this PC now".

Step 4: Select "Keep personal files and apps".

    Step 4: Let it install

I'll look forward for your response, have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.

The only relevant driver that shows under Human Interface Device is "pen" which I have disabled, and uninstalled several times, and restarted the computer to have it reinstalled. The issue continues to persist.

I also tried to do a system restore to a point before the updates to try and isolate the problem. However the system restore fails constantly, even with turning off all my antivirus. I cannot undo it, as that also fails the restore process.
