Low bluetooth audio quality (low bitrate) with true wireless earbuds - headset mode DISABLED

Hi,

I just got a new Asus Zenbook laptop. It comes with BT 5.0 and I hoped to be able to use my Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus wireless earbuds with it. However, the sound quality is way worse than when playing from my phone. I disabled the headset mode as recommended in most forums, but the sound is still bad. It sounds "crunchy" when the song gets more complicated with a lot of sounds. Again, the sound profile is set to headphones, not headset. I play the same youtube videos from my Pixel 3 smartphone and my laptop, the laptop sounds way worse. Is there anything I can do to increase the bitrate? My phone doesn't use any special codec, just SBC.  I didn't find any control panel to change any of this Bluetooth stuff. I have the latest drivers from Intel's website (AX200).

Thanks for any help

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that the audio quality for the Bluetooth device is very low. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.

    However, please let us know:

    1.     Does this issue occur with all the Bluetooth devices or only with one device?

    2.     Are you aware of any changes made to the computer prior to this issue?

    3.     What is the complete model number of the Asus Zenbook laptop?

    4.     Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? Refer Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

We can try changing the sample rate for the Bluetooth device and check. Refer the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key + R, to open Run dialog box.
    2. Type mmsys.cpl and click on OK.
    3. Now, click on Playback tab and double click on the Sound device that you are using.
    4. Go to Advanced tab, and select the highest Sample rate available from the drop-down under Default Format.
    5. Click on OK

You can try to check the Enhancements for the device and see if that helps. Please follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key + R, to open Run dialog box.
    2. Type mmsys.cpland click on OK.
    3. Under Playback tab, double click on the device that you are using.
    4. Click on Enhancements tab and try to disable the Enhancements.
    5. Click on Apply and OK.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

Interesting, I will test it whether I get better or the same sound using SBC on my phone. Thanks

Pixel 3 supports many bluetooth codecs.

Chances are you are using AAC with your Galaxy Buds Plus with your Pixel 3.

Thank you for the tips, however, the ones regarding the sample rate and enhancements I had already tried before writing the original post.

As for the questions, I can't really try this on another device because I don't have any of enough quality to be able to tell.  The model is Zenbook 14 UM425 with Intel AX200 wireless. The only changes I made to the laptop was installing the latest drivers from intel's website. Windows is the latest update available, Windows 10 Pro 20H2.
