Intel Optane installation / Boot Issue

Hi, I'm having a hard time installing the intel optane that was pre-installed with the device.

I had my laptop reinstalled with Windows 10 Pro because the HDD i was using broke and I had to buy an SSD. Then I saw that their is an intel optane installed in my laptop but it doesnt seem to be working. So I tried to set it up with the help of the guide I downloaded from intel.

So what I did was downloaded the driver and then switched the controller mode from AHCI to RST then reinstall windows. And when I did my system doesnt boot up at all. It says they can't find a drive to boot. So I went to bios and saw that my SSD wasn't supported by RST. And then I switched back to AHCI mode but now it says stop code: inaccessible boot device. And now its preparing automatic repair and its stuck on that. I have so many questions right now but I need to get my system working first.

My device is a Lenovo Ideapad 330s

Edit: If the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen is taking too long, should I be worried?

Anytime I deal with changing the driver configuration for a drive, I set the system to boot into Safe Mode after I make such a change.  You can do that using msconfig.exe or through the recovery function..  Make sure you know your password if you try to go into Safe Mode.

If you want the Optane memory driver, you will need the Intel driver which uses RAID so your Bios would need to have that set.  If you tell the installer to leave the system as AHCI, it will install the Win 10 Standard SATA driver and not install the Optane driver.  An AHCI setting would be appropriate in the Bios setting for that situation.

Can we assume you are using a 2.5" SATA drive?

    Hi Phillip

Okay, let that run as long as possible, if you are still getting that blue screen, that generally indicates your system is not actually booting from the USB, I presume that is the same USB you previously used to install Windows 10,so ,that should be okay, if so, the next time you try to install Windows 10, try the following to wipe your BIOS

Remove the BIOS battery from the motherboard, disconnect form the mains electricity, then press and hold the Power Button on your PC for 30 seconds, then wait 10 minutes, reinsert the BIOS battery, connect back yup to the mains electricity and try to boot form the USB again . . .

    Hey Dave,

Thank you for your response but I already tried switching to AHCI then tried to install Windows and it can't boot the USB drive I'm using. Whenever I set the boot priority in BIOS to the USB drive, it takes me to a blue screen with an error saying inaccessible boot device. Do you think this is a hardware issue? I've reinstalled Windows on some computers before and this is the first time I've encountered something like this. It's been an hour and its still preparing automatic repair. Should I wait? I'm worried that I'm doing too much hard resets now.

    Hi Philip

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

It is best to start again, because you switched to RST before installing Windows 10

Boot back into BIOS, set SATA mode to AHCI and clean install Windows 10

Then go to the support page for your laptop on the Lenovo website to download and install any drivers that were not automatically installed by the installation

    https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ie/en/products/lap...

With regards to Intel Optane, if that is meant to be installed on your laptop, then the version for your laptop will be available from that Lenovo support page, otherwise, you should not install Intel Optane

Intel do provide downloads for Intel Optane, Intel RST, Intel IME . . etc on their website, but those downloads are not applicable to all devices and it is best to get the version for your laptop from the support page, not the Intel website . . .

    Hi Phillip

Yes, first see if that repair process can get your system to boot . . ..

Does that crash happen immediately when you boot from the USB, or do you get the opportunity to start the installation and then the system blue screens?
