Driver and Support Assistance now reports "Install Failed" after recent Windows update.

For a week now, I get a brief "Install Failed" followed by the "Install failed" messages returning to Install buttons. See screenshot:

I uninstalled the DSA, downloaded it again and re-installed Intel Driver and Support Assistant. The Assistant then scans, says I have 3 updates available, but still fails.

I found a good clue in a log file posted it here:

    https://community.intel.com/t5/Graphics/Intel-Driver-and-Support-Assistant-identifies-updates-but-no/m-p/1230619#M91756

To summarize that post, the Intel DSA log shows

    "11/22/2020 20:15:58 -05:00 41596:1 Error DSAServiceHelper.Program Main () Install: Failed for 29919 (41596):: System.Exception: Failed to restart process (C:\WINDOWS\system32, file:///C:/Program Files (x86)/Intel/Driver and Support Assistant/DSAServiceHelper.exe, install 29919)|| at DSAServiceHelper.Program.RestartAsAdmin(String cmdLine)|| at DSAServiceHelper.Program.Main(String[] args) { }"

And I may have caused the problem when I switched my Windows account type from Administrator to Standard.

I am seeking a way to allow DSA to elevate the installer as needed while keeping my account a Standard type. Is this possible?

    thanks

    Jamie

    Hi Jamie.

My name is Daniela, I am an independent advisor and I will be happy to help you today.

I hope you are very well.

Try updating the driver from the manufacturer's support website.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Best regards.

    Daniela.

In this case it tries to check for new Windows updates. If you cannot find updates or after installing them the DSA continues to fail, we will use the file verification and repair tool that the system itself includes.

Sure, that is a work around, and it did work. At minimum, your workaround gets me the updates.

I am seeking to restore operation to Intel DSA so that it doesn't instantly fail.  It always worked before, but some recent Windows patch broke something.

I did follow suggestion, and manual install works.  After rebooting, my tray icon for DSA now says "2 updates available" and now when I try to "update all" they still fail. Here is the new screenshot showing the very brief "Install Failed" message:

So, I could use Intel DSA to at least tell me what manual tasks I have.

I checked every Event Viewer log entry and only found 4 informational posts that appeared when I try the update.

Given that the DSA app on my PC is runs (and uninstall / reinstall) has not resolved this, and the Event Logs don't even show a local error, and the failure at the web scan page https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html fails so instantly, it seems like it doesn't like something about the data that DSAService is sending.

Intel support seems geared toward developers, I posted here because this support is responsive, and I wonder (but cannot tell) if this new issue is correlated with a Windows update.

Any ideas on getting the Intel DSA automation to work again?

    thank you
