Fingerprint scanner not working on VivoBook after windows update 11-11-2020

Has anyone else encountered this?

I have an ASUS VivoBook and after today's windows update, the fingerprint scanner was not working. Had to do a system restore to get it to work again.

BTW I only now just learned that we no longer have an easy option to have Windows Update notify you about the update but not download or install them until you want to do it manually.  Seems like a pretty lame change to me. I did pause updates for 7 days. Why did they remove the options on how updates are handled ?

Will create a support ticket tomorrow to notify Microsoft of the issue.

    LOL!

    OK.

So I figured I would try one last thing to fix this and, of course it worked.

I simply rolled back the fingerprint driver through the control panel- device manager.

In case anyone else encounters this type of issue Here is how I fixed it:

    -Open Control Panel

     -Hardware and Sound

      -Device Manager

-Biometric devices (click the arrow to show)

         - Look for your fingerprint sensor (which will have an error icon)

         - RIGHT CLICK on the fingerprint sensor and select Properties.

         - Select the DRIVERS tab in the dialog box

         - Select roll back driver.

Hope this helps someone! : )

It's definitely cause by a conflict with Norton Remove & Reinstall Tool

Hi Zia, the last error might be a device manager error. You can try these steps in this link and see if it helps: https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-fix-code-19-err...

So I thought the problem was fixed but after restoring my system I had some errors in Norton 360. I downloaded the Norton remove and reinstall tool to fix that and suddenly after restarting my fingerprint reader is not working again.

I believe this must be caused by some sort of conflict that is created after removing and reinstalling through that Norton tool.

I have seen similar complaints in attempting to research this and all have the same problem occurring after the norton remove & reinstall tool is run.

If anyone has any answers to why this happens and how I can get my fingerprint scanner working again without having to do another system restore - that would be awesome.

I also tried to download the fingerprint scanner driver from ASUS support site but it does not work.

The error that I get in my device manager for the fingerprint reader is:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

Thanks for any assistance anyone can give.
