    Hi Martin -

Normally you'd use either ethernet or wireless connection to the router. Then if you want to share files between the devices try one of these methods:

    I hope it helps.

    Hi Greg

Thank you for the information. it was really helpful.

Is there a tutorial on how to put my ethernet settings back to normal?

They do not work since I changed the settings so I could join up my 2 laptops via ethernet cable.

    Thanks again

    Martin

    Hi Greg

Thank you for your speedy reply

My 2 laptops connect fine via ethernet cable, thanks to a Youtube tutorial lol

Both of my laptops are connected to the internet via wi fi & work fine.

I was just wondering if I could still connect internet via ethernet cable as it is faster .

Is this not possible at all?

I am not very technical minded.

    Thanks again

    Cheers

    Martin

Hi Martin. I'm Greg, an eleven years awarded MVP, Volunteer Moderator, and Independent Advisor here to help you until this is resolved.

When you create a network via ethernet crossover cable, either it will work or the wireless network but usually not both. When I have done this in the past to transfer files between two PC's, I had to shut of wireless to get the PC's to connect to each other.

Read more about ad hoc networks:

I hope this helps. Based on what you report back I can answer any questions and may have other steps to perform. If you'll wait to rate whether my post was helpful, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
