I had to replace the motherboard on my PC. prior to the change I was running Window for workstation purchase via Windows App store.

I was asked to activate this once the new motherboard so I put in the key i have use (from Windows 8 DVD)

The computer has only activated Windows 10 pro not Windows 10 pro for workstation.

The order I have from Windows app store doesn't have a product key with it so I seem to be unable to get back to previous Windows.

    Hi Steven,

I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 3 year Windows Insider MVP here to help.

Use the following generic key to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for workstations:

    DXG7C-N36C4-C4HTG-X4T3X-2YV77

As you changed the motherboard, you would have to run Activation troubleshooter.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/20527/...

Select I recently changed hardware on the device.

    Try this way:

    > Open Command prompt

    > Type in without quotation marks "slmgr.vbs /cpky" ( this will deactivate Windows)

    > Open Settings -> Update & Security -> Activation

    > Click on Troubleshoot

    > Select "I changed hardware on this device recently"

    > Log in with the account you bought Windows for WS

    > From the list of devices, select the checkbox next to "This is the device I'm using right now"

    > Click Activate

    I hope it helps.

    Hi,

there are two possible places to look for:

    First option:

    > Go to Order history, find Windows 10, and then select Product key/Install.

    > Select Copy to copy the key, and then select Install.

    > Select Download tool now, and follow the instructions.

    > A wizard will help you through the steps to install. You can install Windows 10 on a PC.

    Second option:

    > Open Microsoft Store

    > Click on the 3 dots at the top right corner (...) and choose Downloads and updates

    > In the menu click on "All owned"

    > Find Windows 10 for Workstation and click on the Install button right from it.

    Hope it helps.
