How Do I Stop Windows 10 from Taking Over my Computer

Windows 10 will suddenly start using all resources available. I've at times had to put it to sleep or shut it off to make it stop. I just switched off automated updates trying to protect my computer from the near 100% resource use. It completely takes over. Going to Task Manager and shutting down resource gobbling activities doesn't always work. It shows programs that were working fine and not gobbling resources as taking most of the resources. I close FireFox and LibreOffice and anything else that isn't a Microsoft program and it still is overtaxing my computer showing that the programs Task Manager blamed were not actually involved. Making matters worse, I have to keep shutting off Microsoft Edge because it loads itself and takes up computer resources that need to go to programs I actually like.

That's an unreasonable solution that won't fix the underlying problem. Windows 10. Both computers have similar problems. As I use them for different things, the one common thing is Windows 10.

Having two computers, I sometimes am setting something up on one while the other waits. This computer can be running no user programs. I will hear the computer as it suddenly starts gobbling computer resources for no reason. It's a Windows 10 malfunction.

I have been using Windows since 3.1. I started using computers in a Commodore 64 lab. I have an AA business degree from a Microsoft certified school (twenty years ago.) I'm not a new user. I've seen some obnoxious problems over the years. I prefer hardwired computers, pre 2003 MS Office and I would be happy if Windows stopped making OS with XP.

Now that I've established I don't need my cup holder fixed.

How do I get Windows 10 to stop disrupting my computer?

I have 3.87 RAM on the primary computer (as said above.) A basic Google search says Windows 10 needs a minimum of 2 gigs.

Under Storage, it says I have 931 GB. 50.1 used. 881 available.

I bought the computer I could afford. It should be able to run Windows 10 that came pre-installed.

"What are the main things you want your computer to be able to do?"

I use FireFox for Facebook, Illyriad (low graphic browser strat game,) and Google research primarily.

I use Chrome for Celtx which is a nasty program but I don't have a better script PDF option.

I use LibreOffice and Scrivener. Both of those programs operated perfectly fine under previous versions of Windows and shouldn't cause any problems at all.

My other computer is primarily for YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Amazon music and occasional DVDs. Kindle for PC. Another low graphic browser game. It has about as much memory usage from writing files.

I also have Steam but it won't reasonably run anymore. Not since upgrading to Windows 10. When it updates, Steam is one of the things it consistently disables.  I have to reinstall games. After one update, Windows 10 disabled FireFox and even MS Edge. I had to use Chrome until the next update reversed the damage.

I'm not using my computer for anything high end. On rare occasions I create graphics in Paint. Most of what I do involves writing stories and the files those programs create are minuscule compared to my hard drive size.

The problem is Windows 10 gobbling system resources for no apparent reason. I can be running nothing and it will suddenly start gobbling. Or I will be using FireFox and the Task Manager claims it's using excess amounts of resources, so I close FireFox completely. But the resources are still not available because it wasn't FireFox it was Windows 10. I have the same problem with other programs. The Task Manager blames them for resource usage that are still in use when I close the programs.

I have run anti-virus. Webroot says there's no problem. I can't reasonably use Spy bot search and destroy anymore because Windows 10 disables it.

For the umpteenth time, the problem is Windows 10.

The information is inaccurate. I went to settings and search for "performance." I did not get the list of options shown nor did I find anyway to get there.

    Windows 10 Home Edition 1909

    AMD A6-9225 RADEON R4

    5 COMPUTER CORES 2C +3G 2.60 GHz

    3.87 GB

    64-bit operating system

The computer was purchased last summer new and came with Windows 10 installed. I have an older version of basically the same computer I use for streaming and music. It was upgraded to Windows 10 and has some of the same problems.

The newer computer needs daily scan disc to function.

    Hello, Zyndell.

My name Is Alonso, I am an independent advisor.

Could you tell me what the specifications of your computer are to help you solve your problem?

From what I see it is possible that your HDD or SSD storage unit is overloaded or even the processor does not have the proper drivers.

I am here to serve you my friend, I hope I have been helpful.
