"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error" message when resetting PC

Hi there

I have an ASUS Notebook T100TA with Windows 10 x86. I was having issues with the audio & mic not working & decided to reset my PC doing a complete reinstall via the reset menu (install from my PC).

The computer appeared to complete the "preparing" and "restoring" steps, and then after rebooting the screen flashed and the computer switched itself off. It did this over and over again, so I decided to try and reinstall the OS via a flash drive using the Media Creation tool. I managed to get into the BIOS and changed the boot sequence to boot up the USB flash drive containing the OS. The USB started flashing, I got a circle on the screen and the word "preparing", and then the error message "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error", and instructions to restart the computer and run the installation again. I clicked OK, the computer restarted, but again the same error message appeared.

The computer doesn't seem to be booting correctly from the USB drive... perhaps it is searching for the installation files created during the reset process and has got stuck in a loop.

Is there any way to fix this? I need to bypass this error message and try to install Windows from the USB flash drive.

Thanks

    Hi Paloma

    Thank you for the link.

Unfortunately this does not help me. I have already tried doing a clean installation via a USB flash drive created using the Media Creator Tool. The BIOS is set to boot from the flash drive (and the USB drive flashes when I turn the computer on), but the installation does not begin.

When I click OK, the computer restarts, but the same error message appears.Image

Instead, I get the message "preparing" and then the same error message I mentioned before (see screenshot). It is clear that for some reason the computer is searching for the files created by the reset process and not booting from the flash drive. I need a way to bypass this.

    Thank you.

I think I have resolved this... changing the boot sequence didn't work. But when I pressed ESC upon starting the machine this allowed me to select the flash drive to perform the install.  It seems to be working now.
