Hi PLMD365, glad to Help, yes those same steps should work in the future, if the need arises . . .
Mom needs help! How to extend GPT partition in order to be up to date with Microsoft Windows 10
Hi,
I am not a computer science person. I'm just an everyday mom who uses a computer.
The latest windows 10 update is giving me trouble. I get the error message "We couldn't update the system reserve partition."
So, I look online for solutions. People say you need more space. Go to disk management and extend the partition space. Everything needed within Microsoft's Disk Management tool is greyed out, and cannot be used.
I watch youtube videos. MiniTool Partition Wizard is recommended. Issues that come up:
Some say this cannot be accomplished if the partition is a "GPT" partition. Mine is GPT.
They also say you must have space directly to the right of the partition that needs more space. When I attempt to use MiniTool Partition Wizard, besides noticing that I have GPT partitions, I also notice there is a full partition in between the system partition, the unallocated 500 MB and the rest of my C: drive.
I look up ways to extend a GPT partition. Someone recommends AOMEI partition assistant. I try that. It won't let me do anything either. You can see there is a full partition between the system partition and the unallocated 500MB.
So what do I do? I want my computer to be protected by the latest updates, but I cannot find anywhere how to extend my system partition. If I completely reinstall Windows onto my C: will that take care of the problem? Or, will it just use the partitions that already exist?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .
This is a known problem with Windows 10 updates, Microsoft provides the page below with the fix for that bug, follow the steps provided in the 'Windows 10 with GPT Partition' section on that page to resolve this:

2020-12-23T20:08:38+00:00 Hi Dave,
Unfortunately, that won't work. I did that several months ago, when there was a different update. It solved the problem then, but now I can't even access the Y: drive. It says "access is denied."
I can only assume that even if I had access, it wouldn't work because I already made space that way once before.
Thanks for the point towards that page though, it reminded me of exactly what I did before.
