Reducing Eye Strain while working on Laptop/PC/Tablet using Display Settings

Hi

I observe that long hours of working on Computers can be tiresome for our eyes. There are

many solutions including the special computer spectacles which filter blue light. There is

also option on Settings -> Display -> Night light On

I also observe  Night Light Setting -> Color Temperature at Night  Adjustment is also made available.

The adjustment bar to the extreme  left will make the screen orange and while on the extreme right makes it plain.

The Night Light on can be turned either day time or night time.

I observe the benefits for the eye based on these settings:

  • Blue Filter spectacles for use of computers/tablets/smartphones/Laptops, requires that user wear the spectacles while using these devices without the Nightlight on and adjustments of color Temperature
  • Night Light On during daytime/night time with  Adjustment of Color Temperature closer to extreme left

These are tradeoffs and may be combined to derive long term benefits.

Any comments and suggestions based on experience is most welcome.

Warm regards

CRKS

    Hi

    Thanks for your response.

I observe that combination of Computer Spectacles with Blue Filter and Settings with "Night Light On"

may be better option trying to derive best of the two.

I found few more things we can do to improve the experience and comfort for eyes:

    1. Turning the Dark mode through:

Settings-> Personalization -> Colors -> Choose Default app mode -> Dark

    1. Turning the Solid Color for Theme with Dark

    Settings -> Personalization -> Theme -> Background -> Solid Color -> Dark

    1. Also, ensuring the browser, Office Tools etc run in Dark Mode.

The outcome is somewhat subjective and depends on individual's preferences and comfort level.

These settings are more useful for coding, word processing and  work  as the screen may look dull.

For entertainment, games and videos, need to find an alternative.

    Warm regards

Hello, my name is Marco and I am an Independent Advisor. I will do my best to help you.

If I understand correctly, you want advice on these methods and that they are the best?

Personally I advise glasses with blue light filter AND the night option of Windows ;-) It's better too much than not enough ...

If you have stinging eyes, headaches, cervico-dorsal pain or hypersensitivity to light, this is when I advise you. But it would always be better to see the optometrist for this...

Computer glasses must fulfill the essential requirement of being perfectly adapted to the distance required to work on a computer screen. This can vary greatly from person to person.

Yes, I put as much as possible my applications in "Dark mode" and my web pages. Working a lot on the pc is ideal. If the page does not offer the option, I take an addon with google chrome for example, probably compatible with Edge, which is called "dark reader".

Happy New Year and best wishes to you too.
