Updating to Windows 10 Version 2004/Conexant Drivers

So what do people with computers with Conexant drivers do? Windows Update says update drivers but there are none acceptable, it also says Microsoft is working on a fix ? So what do we do? If there are compatible drivers for devices using Conexant Audio where are they, how do we get them and install or replace them (I have tried everything to no avail). When does MS expect a fix ? Are persons with Conexant audio drivers computers at end of life ? Does anybody care ?

    Tom380,

You might be waiting a long time fo HP to get the updated Conexant driver for your Spectre 360 so your laptop can be offered the Microsoft Windows Update. I've been waiting a YEAR for my top of the line HP Pavilion I9 desktop and still no new driver! So I took matters into my own hands after finally finding this forum and consulting here. Why don't you at least try the simple method many offered here by first UNINSTALLING your Conexant driver and than second, manually running the Microsoft Windows update from their website? It seems to work (myself included) with no issues and my HP Pavilion is now updated to to Windows 2004 (v 20H20) WITH the Conexant driver that reinstalled itself on the final reboot. Like others have pointed out, the problem appears to be the Conexant driver doesn't play well with the Microsoft Windows 2004 update DURING running the update. After the update no problems, sytem audio works, etc :)

Confirmed! I did the same thing with my ASUS GL-552vw laptop - switched to the MS driver, ran the Windows Assistant manual install to 20H2 and everything worked perfectly. When I booted back up, the Conexant audio driver had been reinstalled and I've had no issues at all!

Seems like Microsoft could very easily fix this and remove the block!

that would be easier said than done.

though it would be better if manufacturer ASUS would ask Synaptics for newer Conexant audio drivers that are higher than 8.66.95.69 for some of their laptops and make them available on the Asus support site

    Hi,

Don't wait go force the installation of 20H2 . download  mediacreationtool20H2.  make an iso file , then extract the iso file in place then access the installation folder then click on the setup installation and keep files and apps then follow the process.  If extract does not appear in your mouse menu download 7zip (https://www.7-zip.org/a/7z1900-x64.exe) and install it >right click on the iso  then go to 7zip>click on extract to

    Leave a feedback

I tried both the media craetion tool and upgrade assistant from microsoft. Both didnt worked for me. The installation failed because of incompatibility (the driver incompatibility).

Then I went for the "Conexant Driver replacement with microsoft default driver" and blocked force driver update by windows update through Windows Registry. Eventually I got what I wanted, 2004 version upgrade by windows update. But that was last month.

Last week I got the 20H2 update also.

I also tried to update using the update assistant installer and windows 20H2  ISO method, neither of them worked for me either and the installation failed. I don't have the know how to block the driver uninstall and block method. So I will be forced to wait for a driver upday from Microsoft.

I'm trying to update an Asus K501UX, which is quite a high spec laptop, you would think the driver that windows gave you would be on the windows catalogue if it worked for another Asus machine!!

Finally it seems they have fixed the Conexant driver.

Today I am offered the updated Conexant driver v 8.66.95.70

Prior to this I had ver 8.66.95.69 and Windows update was not available.

So maybe all those who didn't know how to block or remove the Conexant driver can see if their laptops also get the driver update and subsequently Windows May and October updates as well.

    Goodluck

Did you get the 2004 Update offered by Windows Update? Or you had already updated to 2004 prior to this driver update?

I just checked and found out that I was too offered this driver (8.66.95.70 version) update through Windows Update. Although I have been on the 2004 version for quite some time now, and I'm waiting for 20H2 update. I don't want to take any chance at this moment.

    P.S. I'm using an ASUS VIVOBOOK S15 S510 notebook

    @texgeekboy

Yours is a very good summary. I will note one other option- follow the instructions on page 3 to manually install the Lenovo Connexant driver, which is a newer version (8.66.89.50, which is greater than 8.66.89.00) that passes the Windows Update blocks.

(In my case, on an LG Laptop, it changed the name of the device from "Connexant HD Audio" to "Connexant SmartAudio HD" but it seems to work fine.)

If you want to ensure that you stick with the Lenovo driver and it doesn't get automatically replaced somehow, you can use the Group Policy Editor to put in a block. See this article for how to do that.

With the Lenovo SmartAudio HD driver (8.66.89.50), you can then update to Windows 10 20H2 using the Media Creation Tool, it will no longer block you.
