Unable to scan using windows apps, using Lexmark MC3426adw

So, a couple months ago I started having trouble scanning from my MFP (Lexmark MC3426adw). I contacted Lexmark support and they had me install their utility package which includes their 'Scan Center' app which seems to work fine. However, 'Windows Fax and Scan' as well as the 'Scan' app do not seem to be able to detect it.

Device is connected to wireless, running the latest firmware and drivers. Prints fine, just cannot scan using MSFT apps. Like before it showed up in the device manager but now it doesn't.

Anyone else having this problem? It was driving me nuts. I even reloaded the system thinking something was just garbled up in Windows.

Windows Fax and Scan is installed. You can see the error listed when clicking on the  'New Scan' Tab

However, it does not show up under "Print & Document Services"

    Hi Paul,

With the idea that something changed, also I add below the next steps for your review, which is very basic, but is possible:

    • In Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Programs and Features.
    • Click Turn Windows features on or off link at the left pane.
    • In the Windows Features dialog box, expand Print and Document Services, and verify that Windows Fax and Scan check box is marked.
    • Click OK.

    I hope to help you.

    Hi Paul,

Yes, I read the description and sent these links, because it is in the installation of the printer that I see the problem, which must be defined with TCP / IP for its scan function to work, otherwise it will only work for printing. The Microsoft apps (Fax and Scan) should take the scanner from these definitions and you can select it when you choose it in them.

Also, the TCP / IP values must be in the printer settings on your PC for WiFi and with IPv6 activated.

The only way that would have worked at first and then no longer, is that some of these conditions will be modified lately. I suggest you review them.

Also, I add the following link that despite the year of publication, the comment by Andre da Costa (first) is still valid, which deals precisely with the scan function from the Windows Fax and Scan app:

I hope to help you. Please, tell me the results.

I mean cudos on all the generic 'how to install a printer' information. However, I feel that you may not have actually read my initial problem.

Simply put, in February I bought the printer and installed the software and it worked. Now, it doesn't. To re-iterate "Prints fine, just cannot scan using MSFT apps.". I contacted Lexmark and they had me install their generic scan tools and that works fine, it's just the MSFT apps (Windows Fax & Scan as well as the 'Scan' app)  that are no longer working.

Printer drivers and network twain drivers are installed. The scan apps do not detect the presence of a scanner. Communication between the system and the MFP are fine.

    Hi Paul,

I’m Mario an Independent Advisor. I’ll try to help you with this problem.

I reviewed the issue and I suggest as a first step, you review the document in the link below, that explains how to install and use a scanner in Windows 10, in chapter 2 talks specifically of wireless scanner:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/ins...

Also, the next link from the manufacturer with similar aspects::

    http://support.lexmark.com/index?id=HO3979&...

I suggest too, review the next steps in order to verify that the next services are active because they are used with the scan function:

    • Remote Procedure Call RPC
    • DCOM Server Process Launcher
    • RPC Endpoint Mapper
    • Shell Hardware Detection
    • Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)

The next steps should be executed for each one of the services mentioned above:

    1. In the Search area, type service and hit Enter
    2. In the window opens, click on the "Run as Administrator" option
    3. Find the service name that is reviewing in the Name list, select with left-click
    4. If you see “Service status” is Stopped, click the Start button and OK button. Then the service will start again.

Repeat 1-4 with the next service

I hope to help you. Please, tell me the results.
