hi im really anxious as i write this so please forgive any mistakes

i moved all my files from my old acer laptop to another laptop manually, and then i decided to factory reset the acer laptop (the long reset where it doesn't save any files)

for the first few bits the factory reset was slow, but it was still moving

however now it's stuck at 42% for two hours and i am panicking that i did something wrong

i have read that the reset is not supposed to take this long?

what should i do? just wait it out for longer? do a hard shut down of the laptop?

please help

thank you

    Hi gurneet1701

Okay, give that process another 30 minutes, if that dos not progress past 42%, then that is not going to complete, you then have no other option but to perform a hard shut down, press and hold the Power Button on the PC for 5 - 10 seconds until the PC shuts down

Wait a few seconds, then start the PC again, the Reset will either progress, or it will roll back

If that still does not get the PC working, then you will need to create a bootable Windows 10 USB on the other PC, and use that to clean install Windows 10:

You can reinstall Windows 10 at any time and it will not cost you anything !

    Click this link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10

Since you previously had Windows 10 installed and activated on that PC during the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option 'I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC', and activation will not be an issue, your PC will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers

Make sure you install the same Edition of Windows 10 (Home, Pro . . . etc.) you previously had installed to avoid Activation issues

    Hi gurneet1701

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

A Windows 10 Reset will generally complete within 3 hours, but that depends on the options you chose when initiating the Reset

Did you choose to delete everything, did you choose to clean the drives, and did you choose a Local Reset or an Online (Cloud) Reset?

I am not sure what it is called, but there is one reset that keeps your files but returns windows to factory and there is another that deletes all files and all data and reinstalls windows

    I picked the second

you already moved your files to other harddisk, so it's better to do clean of fresh windows 10 20h2 installation.
