Laptop camera missing. no longer in device manager

I have an ASUS Vivobook 15 x505z bq034t running on Windows 10 home. Been using it for almost 2 years now and until last week i never had problems with my drivers.

I upgraded my laptop last week, inserting a samsung 860 evo m2 sata ssd in the free m2 slot for efficiency on my work. After that i made a fresh install of windows which i made using the windows media tool on a flashdrive.  Encountered a problem (windows cant be installed on the ssd) which i fixed using a solution i found online something about using diskpart and cleaning the drive (idk if this is related but im adding to be sure).

Anyway it was all going good after that and i was happy with the ssd but days later i found out my camera is no longer working. I thought its just because i had it disabled (which i usually do because im quite worried and cautious), and i only enable it when im going on an online meeting.

But when i went to the device manager its no longer there. I searched online and found out that there is a Hidden Devices section on  the device manager and i saw the Camera device there. But unfortunately, the enable option is grayed out, cant do anything to it except uninstall it, and so i did (because ive read online that windows is supposed to automatically reinstall it with the latest drivers after restarting the PC). But no, it didnt, and now im left with a device manager with no Camera device what so ever.

Been trying a couple of solutions i found online to no avail. Used Snappy driver installer (i just installed the drivers which were recommended for my pc, coz i dont know which is which), but still nope.

My laptop does not have a physical switch for the webcam and i believe it is physically fine and is only a matter of missing drivers or something due to the fresh installation of windows.

Hope you could help me out on this one and Happy Holidays!

    Hello again, JhakeSong!

I apologize for not replying sooner, got caught in the holiday festivities. Anyways thank you for the suggestion and so I've tried that but sadly, nothing happened.

However, today I rebooted my laptop from the old HDD, because I had some important notes stuck in the Sticky Notes which were not carried over on the new OS on the SSD. So while I was doing that, I checked the Camera App and I had the same error <nocameraattached> so then I checked the Device Manager (reminder that this is booted from the old HDD). and I found the camera driver greyed out on the Hidden Devices view. Again, same condition as the one I found on my then-newly installed Windows at the new SSD. No buttons available but to update it, which I tried but it kept saying that I already had the latest installed driver, or to uninstall it.. So I was left with no choice but to uninstall the webcam driver in the hopes of Windows automatically reinstalling it after a restart, which sadly, as exeactlythe case I had stated in my problem at the start of this thread: the webcam is completely gone.

The device was called USB 2.0 VGA UVC Webcam

Hoping that there is still a solution for this and thank you for your help. Happy new year!

Hi Jhakesong! Thank you for helping.

I figured something like that would work so i searched the ASUS site for drivers for my specific laptop model (https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/ASUS-VivoBook-15-X505ZA/HelpDesk\_Download/) but unfortunately i do not know which one to get. The drivers available for download are BIOS, Networking, Wireless, Chipset, Audio, Pointing Device, ATK, Bluetooth, Utilities, and BIOS Utilities. Should i pick the Utilities one?

Regarding the laptop model number, not really sure where to get it. Isn't it this: ASUS Vivobook 15 x505z bq034t?

    Hi NicoOcampo1,

Good day! This is Jhakesong an Independent Advisor and I will be happy to assist you with this.

Have you tried downloading the camera driver if there is any from your laptop manufacturer's website?

If you could give me your laptop's model number. I can go and take a look and possibly provide you the link for your laptop's camera driver.

Will wait for your update. Have a great day.
