Audio Keeps Switching

Hi,

I have a problem where my audio would switch back from headphones to speakers for the 4 months now. It started back when I started school and had to use Zoom. So I would unplug my headphones from my computer so I can hear the teacher. The only way to fix the problem temporally would be to unplug and then plug the headphones back in. Also when I would listen to Spotify on my computer, the audio wouldn't play.

The headphones I use are Razer Kraken Ultimate and I'm updated to all the current software.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that the audio keeps switching from headphones to speaker. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.

    However, please let us know:

    1. Are you aware of any changes made to the computer prior to this issue?
    2. Does this issue occur with any other headphones?
    3. Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? Refer Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

One of the things I would suggest you is to set the logo speakers as the default device and see if that helps. Refer the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows logo key + R, to open Run dialog box.
    2. Type mmsys.cpl and click on OK.
    3. Playback tab, right click on the speakers and select Set as Default Device.
    4. on OK.

If the issue persists, we can try removing the audio drivers and reinstall them from the computer manufacturer’s website. To do this, refer the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows logo key + X and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers.
    3. Right click on the Audio device and select Uninstall.
    4. Now, select the checkbox for Delete the driver software for this deviceand select Uninstall
    5. After uninstalling it, download the drivers from the computer manufacturer’s website and install them.

Let us know how it goes.

It's my headphones not the software.

I'll have to purchase or somehow fix my headphones

Thanks for trying to help me solve this problem!

    Unfortunately, It didn't work

I do not own another pair of USB headphones but I could try using my AirPods.

The build of Windows 10 I have is: Version 1909 and the OS build is 18363.1256
