Windows Update KB4592438 : error code error 0x8007000D missing files or have problems

Hi all this is the new update from 12-2020 - KB4592438.

I am getting this error with practically every update that I have run since the May 2020 update on this computer.  It is a surface book.

To note I have not yet installed the 20H2 update.

The last Windows update eventually went through.  However I am concerned that the issue is continuing.  None of the updates are clean.

Is there anything I can do to update and get a good result, or do I just wait until it 'fixes itself'??

The update troubleshooter doesn't assist.  The update gets to 71% then the error code below.

Windows for home | Windows 10 | Windows update

    WOW WOW WOW !!!

    It worked like a charm.

I had literally tried EVERYTHING but to no use. Your instructions got me working all fine. Even got a .NET framework update after it and got the latest 20H2 update (12th Jan release).

    BIG BIG THANK YOU !!!!

But alas! I never thought I would have to bother with emptying the SoftwareDistribution folder again, but we should have known it was too good to be true!

Advisors often advise us to run dism or sfc, which has helped me in exact 0 % of cases (but DID cost a lot of time).

Emptying SoftwareDistribution actually often works, but is quite annoying as it takes time and might re-introduce older patches which caused problems in the past.

I wonder, though, does the Windows Update troubleshooter integrate any of the often recommended steps? It seems MS don't bother to tell us, and all the advisors till now are too lazy to find out or tell us - as if the hundreds of hours people lose over this do not matter.

Microsoft support has been totally useless too, losing a total 14 hours of my life and their only final reply was "reinstall the os and then all your apps."

I feel Microsoft owes us millions of dollars for us losing valuable lifetime, trying to clean up the mess they keep creating over and over again. I must say these past few years there were periods where Windows Update finally seemed to work without problems. I almost thought they had gotten their act together. But alas! I never thought I would have to bother with emptying the SoftwareDistribution folder again, but we should have known it was too good to be true!

All in all, these forums are pretty useless too. If they are of some use then it's because of knowledgeable volunteers, but there seem to be more of those at other non-Microsoft forums. Why do we have to do their work for them and do we never get any form of compensation?

I'm soooooooo fed up with this!

Happy New Year everyone ! Good messages to start the year with !

Thanks to the amazing People at https://www.deskmodder.de ,

i was able to brake the  "Update failure with 0x8007000d" ban....

Finally!  Indeed, those steps worked for me too, thanks!  I had to use the batch file too. (the process is long though, took over 90 minutes)

Windows update has been a clusterf... since day 1.  For a "modular" OS, you'd think it would be easier to fix a "module"(windows update) that is completely broken...

Microsoft support has been totally useless too, losing a total 14 hours of my life and their only final reply was "reinstall the os and then all your apps."

Thank you Bernard for getting back so quickly.

I will give the Powershell commands a go and let you know the result.
