Allowing my windows 10 PC to utilize my new 1 Gigabit internet speeds from Century Link

Anonymous

I recently updated my internet service  through Century link  to the 1 gigabit speed..... I can get the top speeds on my phone and other devices but my PC that is windows 10 64 bit and the current  ethernet card wont allow my to go over 100 MBPS........  I use the hard wire connection to the modem

I want to know how I can change this so that when connected via ethernet cable to 1 gigabit modem the computer allows the fastest speed available..

(the century link technician came out and he said it is my ethernet adapter  that is not allowing more than 100 MBPS

because when i do the speed test on the apple phone  it showing 599 MBPS

thanks in advance for sugestions / solutions

    Hi,

The Realtek appears to be the problem..

That is your hardwired connection and is only rated at 100mbps..

You will need to look for a new add-in Ethernet\Lan card or a USB Dongle of some type to get the 1 gig speed..

    Dear Boise,

Take a look at the specification sheet for your computer mother-board; specifically the rating of the LAN chip or card.

You may find it is 100MBPS, thus effects a brake or shunt point, between your OS (Windows) and the 1 Gbps Modem.

    Cheers,

    Rick.
