Can I install Windows Media Player 12 with Windows 8.1 Pro OS?

I tried to watch a video that asked me to install Windows Media Player 10.  I don't want to upgrade to Windows 10.

Will Windows 12 allow me to play videos like these?   Can I install Windows Media Player 12 with Windows 8.1 Pro.  Can I install Media Player 10 without upgrading to Windows 10.  I currently have Windows Media Play installed.

Thanks!

Windows Media Player 12 is what comes with 8.1.

Open WMP > under Help Tab > About WMP it tells you there.

You can try installing the Codecs to view those files from here.

Windows 8/8.1 has a serious lack of Codecs.

FYI: During our review, we found that this program offers to install promotional, third party components. Installation of these components is optional but you should pay attention during setup

Or use a different Media Player:

    "VLC Media Player (VideoLAN)"
