Activating Windows XP in Parallels on MacBook

Windows XP installed on Parallels on MacBook, worked but now getting the following error message

"This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on.   Do you want to activate Windows now?"

When I click "yes" I get the following:

"  A problem prevented Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer.  Error code 0X80004005."

I am stuck as there is no support for Windows XP and if I reinstall I will lose work on a Windows program I had installed.  The files for that program seem to be hidden in the parallels file and I can't access them.

    We don't work for Microsoft.

If you paid for a Retail license for XP at some time:
