I upgraded my "Asus-k42f" from windows 7 to windows 10 recently and now I cannot install any graphics drivers on my laptop. It says that there are no current drivers supported by you OS. And the main problem is when I try to play any game, it says that "You need to upgrade your drivers to the latest version". Can someone please assist me?

    Hi wosti_180,

Good day! This is Jhakesong an Independent Advisor and I will be happy to assist you with this.

Try this driver version from Asus' website and see if it works. This is the file name:

    VGA Drivers

    Intel Graphics Driver

    Version V8.15.10.2125

    2010/06/2340.18 MBytes

    Here's the link: https://www.asus.com/me-en/Laptops/K42F/HelpDes...

Download and install the driver then reboot your computer. Then check device manager and see under Display adapters if the driver was installed.

    To access device manager:

    1. Press Windows key + X
    2. Select device manager.

Let me know how it goes. Have a great day!

    JhakeSong,

Yes I do have a folder in my C drive named "Windows.old"

And just to clear it out I upgraded windows just 1 day ago so the time period to go back hasn't expired.

That laptop has old first generation Intel graphics. I have a similar laptop which works just fine with the Windows 7 drivers, as they are compatible. The last 64-bit [intel.com] and 32-bit [intel.com] drivers made for that adapter available from Intel are .2993. They can be manually installed in device manager by browsing to the graphics folder using have disk.

I am guessing whether or not you stay on Windows 10 or revert to Windows 7, you may still run into issues. Many popular online games have recently updated their minimum hardware requirements from DirectX 10 to DirectX 11. Since your onboard graphics is only DirectX 10 compatible, it will be incompatible with games forcing DirectX 11. This would require you to get an updated laptop with updated graphics. There are some workarounds to patch games or DirectX to attempt get around this requirement.

    Hi wosti_180,

Thanks for getting back. Sorry that didn't help out. Could you please check if you have a folder named Windows.old in drive C:\

This is a pre-requisite for getting back to your old version. If you don't have that folder anymore, the only option is to do a clean installation of windows 7. I will wait for your reply.

    Hi JhakeSong!

Thank you for trying to help me out. But the problem is; as I mentioned earlier, I have upgraded to Windows 10 and the drivers are for Windows 7. I searched it up on Intel's website as well as Asus's website. There is no graphics driver for Windows 10 (actually there aren't ant drivers for Windows 10) for my laptop.

I don't think there is a possible fix to this.

And I did install the driver you told me to but it didn't work. It would be more helpful if you could teach me to downgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 7 without having to install windows again manually via discs and USBs. Also the option in Control Panel's Recovery to "Go back to Windows 7" isn't available on my laptop.

              Thank You!
