Getting low battery message even though my laptop is always plugged in with the AC adapter

I did read a similar question/answer from a couple of years ago but in that user's case they were using their laptop mostly on battery power. The notebook adapter is warm so I assume it's working. Is it just time for a replacement battery? Lastly, I'm unable to turn on the battery saver setting as it's grayed-out.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues when charging the Battery of your PC. I will certainly try my best to assist you with the issue.

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and see if that helps.

    Method 1:

Try running the Power troubleshooter and see if that helps.

    1. Press Windows + I key together to open Settings.
    2. Click on Update & Security and then click on Troubleshoot.
    3. On the right hand pane scroll down and look for Windows Store Apps.
    4. Click on it and select Run the troubleshooter.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions

    Method 2:

Try re-installing the Battery drivers and see if that helps.

    1.     Press Windowskey + R. This will open Run. Alternatively, you can go to Start and search for ‘Run

    2.     In Run dialog box, type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.

    3.     Expand Battery.

    4.     Right click on the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and click on Uninstall.

    5.     Click on Uninstall

    6.     Restart the PC.

    Hi kp1555

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

    1

How old roughly is your laptop, is it more than 3 years old?

    2

What is the Make and exact Model No. of your laptop, that will be printed on a sticker on the bottom casing

    3

    In the meantime:

Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

    Expand the Batteries section

For each device in that section:

    Right click and choose Uninstall

    Shut your laptop down

    Disconnect the power adapter

If you can, remove the battery from your laptop

Press and hold the Power button on your laptop for 30 seconds

Re-insert the battery, if you removed it

    Re-connect the power adapter

    Turn on your laptop

Check if your battery is charging . ..

Hi Dave - just to follow-up I had to order a new battery. It's aftermarket as that part from HP is no longer carried.

But again - thanks for your assistance! Have a good weekend.

    Hi Dave;

Did all the steps - but it's the same & down to 3%. So I probably do need another battery.

Thanks for your help. (BTW - Dave is my brother's name!)

    Kathi
