HP Envy 23 ALL in One Desktop as Monitor using Video Capture Card

I really hope someone can help because there is NOTHING that address my situation. I have the

HP ENVY 23-d027c TouchSmart All-in-One Desktop PC

I want to turn it into a monitor only and use an external desktop tower instead (the ALL in one is incredibly slow and LOUD). There is no HDMI input port although this particular model could have had one if it was selected at the time of purchase.

I have a video capture card that enables my DSLR to cast to the PC. It has an HDMI input and output. In other words, I can use my dslr as a webcam so whatever is on the camera shows up on my monitor. I should be able to use it with the external tower the same way, yes?

The problem is I don't know how to turn off the computer so that it is a monitor only. There is no "HDMI button" that other forums speak about. With the camera it was easy because I found it in the camera settings and the computer itself was still running in the background. I want to kill it altogether.

How can I make this all in one a monitor only???

    Hello Jilladler, how are you?

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

My name is Paloma B., I'm an independent advisor, I'm here to help you in the best possible way.

I fully understand that you would like to turn your All In One computer into a Monitor for your computer.

Unfortunately this is not possible because a computer of this format, it is like a laptop, where the image comes directly from the video card with specific cables, that is, it does not have a configuration or way to disable and configure it to use it as just a monitor.

Usually it even has an HDMI or VGA port, but it is only for image output and not input.

I'm really sorry for that, but it is not possible to perform this configuration on an All In One computer.

    I await news.

Forgive my expression, I believe I did not know how to express myself very well, my sincere apologies.

The model used in the video, is a specific model that contains this functionality, as can be seen, it has its own button where you can change the screen's function.

So it is not a functionality made by software, but by hardware, in this case only compatible models will be possible to use this way.

Does your computer have an HDMI button to change the screen functionality?

    I await news.

Hi Paloma- I respectfully disagree with your blanket statement that All in Ones can't not be used as a monitor. If that were true then this would not be possible- regardless of an HDMI button:  https://youtu.be/jj6xeyrCGo0
