I bought Minecraft Java edition a month or two ago. I got Java edition to play with my cousin since he had that version and it's really fun to play by myself as well. Then I wanted to play with my girlfriend but she played on her phone. So I bought and downloaded the Windows 10 edition so I could play with her and anyone playing on console. Windows 10 edition ran fine on my computer and I played that for a while. Then I decided to go back to my world in Java but when I clicked on Minecraft Launcher, instead of bringing me to the menu that lets you select Java edition, it loads a grey window and never brings the menu up. It then says that Minecraft Launcher is not responding. Please tell me how to fix it if it's possible. Is it not possible to have both versions of Minecraft on one PC. Did getting Windows 10 edition mess with the files of Minecraft Java edition. I'll also let you know that before I played the Windows 10 edition I let my computer download and install a bunch of updates to make it run better. Please respond soon. Thank you.

I'am glad I was able to help!
It worked. Thank you so much. I deleted the .minecraft file then clicked the minecraft installer and hit repair and I'm able to play Java edition again. I moved my save file back into it and it works completely fine. Thanks again.
I have also installed both versions of minecraft on my computer and haven’t got any problems with it.
you can try to back-up your game worlds and reinstall minecraft. If you don’t know how i will explain.
Press the windows key + r at the same time and then type %AppData%.minecraft\saves
copy the files in this directory to your desktop or any other location for later.
Now delete Minecraft Java as any other program and download a new installer from https://minecraft.net
please let me know if it works or not
