no, my new computer has still not activated but the old laptop that I removed the key from seems to be activated with the digital license which is unfortunate.
Activating Windows 10 from an old product key
I recently built a PC and want to activate windows on it. I thought I would use the product key from my old laptop (since I had to purchase windows for that) to activate it.
After deleting it and taking it off the registry, I entered it on my PC to find that I'm getting an error code 0x80041014 .
Did I basically just get rid of my product key!? I tried to re-enter it on my laptop and got an error as well. I still have the key code on my PC but it doesn't seem to work anywhere.
Is there anything I can do now? Would signing into my microsoft account on my old laptop put a digital license on the account somehow (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/activate-windows-10-c39005d4-95ee-b91e-b399-2820fda32227)? I already have my current laptop that came with Windows 10 signed into my microsoft account, but that doesn't seem to activate my windows. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

2020-11-22T02:57:38+00:00 Hi,
I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 3 year Windows Insider MVP here to help.
If the computer exists in https://account.microsoft.com/devices you can use the activation troubleshooter.
Activation depends on what type of license you have of Windows 7/8/10.
If Windows 7/8/10 came preinstalled with the computer, that is called an OEM license. For an OEM license, the license dies as soon as Motherboard dies. So essentially it is non-transferable. If that is the case you need to get a new license.
However, this is not same for retail licenses i.e. you purchased the license through Microsoft store. That does carry transfer rights. If that is the case, please see the below steps:
Run the activation troubleshooter on the new device using the below steps:
Go to Settings>Update and security>Activation and run the troubleshooter. and select I recently changed hardware on this device.
(Please note that Activation troubleshooter requires you to have digital license linked to Microsoft Account.)
If the troubleshooter hasn't helped, you would have to call Microsoft during support hours to get more help.

2020-11-23T02:49:43+00:00 Thanks. It should automatically show up. How long have you waited?
Can you confirm if you do not have 2 accounts, maybe having similar alias?
