Getting Windows 10 to recognise xbox 360 kinect as a webcam
Dear All,
With the current situation (COVID-19) I am setting up a home office. Everything is great accept the webcam issue (all sold out in the shops etc). I have pulled out an old xbox 360 Kinect and have had some success with installing it.
I have the drivers installed:
and can get my ugly mug to appear through OpenNI Virtual CAM
Windows 10 pics up the mic and I can record sound etc. But it does not detect a camera. The camera app, skype, zoom etc do not detect anything.
I have spent the last couple of evenings trying to get this to work to no avail. I have searched far and wide on these forums and reddit and tried several potential solutions but none have worked.
It is frustrating because I can get a picture it just seems like some stupid setting is stopping this from happening.
I have tried both Kinect SDK ver 1.7 and 1.8. Currently have 1.7 installed.
Any support or suggestions would be great.

2021-01-24T19:22:49+00:00 I got Teams and Google Meets working on my Microsoft Kinect 360 with the combination of OBS Studio
And this plugin for OBS studio
https://github.com/SirLynix/obs-kinect/releases
I used version 0.3.
I also installed Kinect SDK 1.7
After that you can add kinectsource as a source in OBS Studio, you then already see the kinect video result in OBS studio. When you have that ready just click on "Start Virtual Camera". After that I have the OBS Virtual Camera in Teams and other programs. I also use the sound.

2020-04-08T10:06:59+00:00 I have managed to get it to work with skype using the details in this forum (however it doesn't work with MS teams etc)
Can-now-use-kinect-camera-with-skype
I had to remove all the recent Kinect SDK and only use KinectSDK-v1.0-beta2-x64 to register the KinectCam.ax and now in Skype I can see Kinect Cam option

2020-05-18T13:06:00+00:00 Hi all,
So the video Jeff posted above got me so far (do all the bits she suggests). The big bit though that helped is this guy's how-to:
http://jqinteresting.blogspot.com/2016/11/how-to-turn-your-xbox-360-kinect-sensor.html
At time of writing I have the Kinect recognised as my camera and mic in Zoom. It should also work in Skype and some other platforms, but not Teams as far as I can tell.
1.8 works for me btw - not tried other versions.
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Ben

2020-06-05T12:13:48+00:00 Yeah, this is really annoying! I started from scratch not being particularly tech savvy.
NOTHING recognises it as a camera though the audio works?!
jqinteresting blog didn't work though it helps with the SDK and the drivers (kinectcam.ax) so it's a good starting point to get the camera up and running.
The Kinectcam download doesn't seem to be available anymore on the Chinese site.
If anyone has a working link to that?
I've got it working in a free video suite called OBS but only by using the window from SDK and cropping it. Then using a plugin called Virtual Cam which apparently should work with Skype...but I can't get it working! So I'm pretty much where OP is. It's been a world of pain!
