Windows repeatedly installs printer driver 6.1.7233.1

I noticed a 2GB download from Microsoft.com today and wondered what it was. I went to Updates and found that the only activity today was installing printer driver 6.1.7233.1. And then I noticed that it's been installing that driver almost every day for some time.

I haven't changed anything about my printer in probably a couple years. It's an HP Laserjet M451dn.

When I googled it, there was something about Malwarebytes. I'm not running Malwarebytes; I checked to be sure.

How do I make it stop installing that printer driver?

Here's what I tried shortly after posting.

I went to Printers and found that the HP was showing an unsuccessful driver update. Strange since in Update it showed as successful.

I went to the HP website and installed the latest driver for it. When done, there was an additional entry in printers for the HP. I deleted the old one with the error message. No error message on the new one.

If no more installation attempts for a couple days, I'll know the problem is resolved.

    Hi GregL65

    Welcome to Microsoft Community :)

It's my pleasure to help you today. I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with this. I know how frustrating this may be for you. I'll do my best to help you :)

Go to Devices and Printers (you can type that in the search box).

Then look for unknown devices listed under Printers.

Highlight the unknown devices and selected Remove Device for each Unknown Device.

Restart computer and the Windows update should stop listing the Printer Updates and the printer should work fine.
