So i just had to manually enable Windows Ultimate Power Plan an i was wondering if my Ryzen 3900X & Sapphire Nitro+ 5700XT OC'd or my entire pc could have performace ingame when having ultimate powerplan activated instead of Ryzen High Performace.

My Build:

  • Ryzen 9 3900X 12 Cores @ 24 Threads
  • Sapphire Nitro+ RX Radeon 5700XT OC'd
  • AORUS X570 Master
  • AORUS 3600MHz 16GB Kit CL19
  • 750W Super Flower Titanium PSU LeadEx
  • AORUS AIC 1TB PCle Gen 3 NVme SSD
  • Windows 10 Professional (OS)

Could my FPS Increase with Ultimate Powerplan Enabled on my machine?

    Hello Twitch, how are you?

I am an independent consultant and user like you!

    I'm happy to help you!

In summary, the Ultimate Performance Powerplan serves to boost high energy systems such as servers and workstations.

It serves to improve speed on systems where the hardware continuously enters and leaves an idle state.

You can receive an FPS increase only when starting the game.

I recommend you take a look at the article below, from the HowToGeek forum. There is a lot of information about this power plan.

"Could my FPS Increase with Ultimate Powerplan Enabled on my machine?"

    • This is the first I've heard of Windows Ultimate power plan. My Win10 v20H2 has no such option.

Windows High Performance power plan is generally quite adequate for assuring your cpu and gpu

get adequate power from your psu. Even when running the most system intensive games or other tasks.

I've never used a 3rd party software, which I assume is what 'Ryzen High Performance' refers to, but I'm disinclined to

using the tweaking software that comes with motherboards, etc.

If the AMD Ryzen program disables Windows power plans to avoid conflicts it may be OK though. Key word here... Experiment .

The only impact it should have on games is if the cpu\gpu are not getting enough power when using the Windows Power plan.

It does not contribute to more fps if the cpu\gpu are getting adequate current.

If the Ryzen plan is dynamic and works well it could be a good alternative to Windows Power Plan for saving a bit on the power bills.

People with laptops have more need to be concerned with power plans, as battery use time is better with lower\balance plans,

but this can impact on performance when running game, at which time they need to use the High Performance plan because

of the extra current required by the gpu after a game launches.

Using any High Performance plan on a Desktop machine 24\7 will increase power use from the wall, which may impact on power bills some.
