Go to the website of your computer's manufacturer, enter the requested identifying information (typically, either your computer's serial number or Dell Service Tag), go to the download page for your specific computer, and see if there are Windows 10 drivers available.

If Windows 10 drivers are available, it is very likely that you can upgrade your computer to Windows 10.  Whether that will give you a satisfactory experience, however, will depend on the hardware incorporated in your computer.  The minimum requirements for Windows 10 are here:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-specificationsbut you almost certainly won't be happy if that's all you have.  The following are some more realistic requirements.

    • Processor: Intel 8th generation processors (Intel i3/i5/i7/i9-7x), Core M3-7xxx , Xeon E3-xxxx, and Xeon E5-xxxx processors, AMD 8th generation processors (A Series Ax-9xxx, E-Series Ex-9xxx, FX-9xxx) or ARM64 processors (Snapdragon SDM850 or later)
    • RAM: 4 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 16 GB for 64-bit
    • SSD/NVMe: at least 128 GB for both 64-bit and 32-bit OS
    • Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later
    • Display resolution: 800 x 600, a minimum diagonal display size for the primary display of 7-inches or larger.

Unless you have a very recent high-end Windows 7 computer, you will probably be happier if you buy a new computer with Windows 10 pre-installed, even though you'll have to spend some money.

how to check if my pc on windows 7 can be upgraded to windows 10

There are two ways to do this - the EASY way and the HARD way.

    The EASY way:

Ask the manufacturer "do you support my computer on Windows 10?" If the manufacturer answers 'yes' then your computer can be upgraded to Windows 10. If they say 'no' you'll have to do it the hard way.

    The HARD way:

Prepare a complete list of the hardware in your PC. Ask the manufacturer of each hardware component if they support their component on Windows 10. If the manufacturer has a community forum like Microsoft Community, ask there whether the component works well with Windows 10.

If the complete list of your hardware is supported on Windows 10 or works properly on Windows 10, then your computer can be upgraded to Windows 10. Otherwise, don't bother.

As a practical matter, it's very unlikely that a computer that originally shipped with Windows 7 can be upgraded to Windows 10 without extensive modification.

    Hi BansiShah1!

Welcome to the Microsoft Community Forum.

What LemP said in their reply is correct, Microsoft stopped the website for the "free" upgrade to Windows 10 back in 2016. However, from personal experience, I have found that the upgrade process still does work, although you don't go to the special "Upgrade Offer" website in order to take advantage. According to Microsoft's Support Page of System Requirements, in order to upgrade to Windows 10 on Windows 7 is you must have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed on your machine. You'll need a 1 Gigahertz or faster processor, with minimum of 1 GB of RAM for 32-bit, or 2 GB RAM for 64-bit. And as for Hard Drive Space, Windows 10 32-bit requires 16 GB of space for 32-bit, and 20 GB of space on 64-bit system. To see this information as well as more detailed requirements and to download Windows 7's SP 1 on your system, go Here

To find out whether you're running on 32-bit or 64-bit, hit the Start button, right-click "Computer", and left-click "Properties", and your system information will be shown, including the 32/64-bit configuration, and the amount of RAM your system has.

Once you figured out that your PC has at least the minimum requirements to install Windows 10, you can download the ISO file from Microsoft, which you can use to create an Installation CD or just use it to upgrade to Windows 10 directly from Windows 7. Now, it's STRONGLY recommended that you make a backup of your files in case you want to revert back to Windows 7 later, because even though this upgrade will keep your files and settings from Windows 7 intact, in order to revert back to Windows 7 the only option is a Clean install, which will only install Windows 7 back to it's original state without your files. For the upgrade process, you don't need to worry about typing a product key, as Windows will auto-activate the license key from your windows 7 install.

If you have any further questions, report back here and we will assist you further. Also report back with any success story you have from the upgrade process. Hope this has helped you!

    Thanks,

    Dustin

You may or may not still get 10 for free, but you first have to see if 10 is compatible with your device.

The free upgrade to Windows 10 offer from Microsoft expired on the 29th July, 2016.

You will have to contact MS support and they may be able to assist you with a free upgrade to 10..

First thing to do is to make sure that you have the correct system requirements and that your Computer Manufacturer supplies the correct Drivers for 10 for your Model Number.

If you read those Microsoft's system requirements for 10, you will find that if you only go on them you will be sadly disappointed in performance.

For reasonable performance should have at least:

2 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor.

4 gigabyte (GB) of RAM for 32-bit or 8 GB for 64-bit

    500GB hard drive

DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver

If you are upgrading to 10 at least make a system image backup for two reasons.

    1. Some people report they don't get the free upgrade and want to reinstall 7.
    2. If you don't do the system checks and 10 is incompatible with your device and it becomes inoperable.
