Microphone being detected as Headphones/Speaker

Hi, everyone.

I recently bought a new mic (LC Studio). It's brand new, so I don't think there's an issue with the mic itself. But whenever I try to connect it to my laptop, it recognizes the mic as a speaker or a pair of headphones.

I've been looking all over my settings - it either doesn't show up or is just seen as an audio output device.

Sorry it's german, but it should be pretty easily digestable... I really hope this can be fixed :(

If this is your laptop:  Ideapad Gaming 3-15IMH05 Laptop - Type 81Y4 - Model 81Y4004DGE, your problem is that your laptop does not have a microphone input jack.

The 3.5 mm jack on the left side of the laptop does not support a microphone like the one you bought:   "Connect headphones or headsets with a 3.5 mm (0.14 inch), 4-pole plug. Note: This jack does not support standalone external microphones. If you use headsets, choose one with a single plug."

    Good Day Cabagbe,

My name is Carlo, I'm an Independent Advisor and community member like you.

I am also using Windows 10 pc. Let us work together to sort this out.

What is the mic you are using is it comes with

Here's the steps you can try.

    -Press Windows key + X

    -Go to Settings

    -Click Update and Security

    -Click Troubleshooter then Additional troubleshooter.

-Look for Speech and run the troubleshooter.

Once done proceed with these steps.

    -Press Windows key + X

    -Go to Device Manager

-Expand the Audio Input and Output

-Look for Microphone driver that was installed

    -Right click and Update

-Look for "Browse my computer for driver

-Let me pick drivers available drivers

-Choose an old driver and use it.

    -Go to Control Panel

-In Control Panel, select Large icons from the View by drop down menu.

    -Select Sound.

-Select the Recording tab, then right-click on any empty place inside the device list and tick Show Disabled Devices.

-Right click the Microphone and click Enable.

-Right-click it again and select Set as Default Device.

-Right click Microphone and click Properties.

-Click the Levels tab, then drag the volume slider towards the largest value.

    -Click OK, then click OK.

    Restart and check.

If issue persist, let's download the updated driver from the manufacturers website.

What is the exact model of your computer?

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    With Warm Regards,

    Carlo T.

    Hello Carlo,

thank you for the quick and thorough answer. Here's the requested info: This is the microphone. The microphone, as it says, does not have a driver and should work without one. The laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 81Y4004DGE.

The troubleshooting unfortunately didn't work - again, it doesn't pick it up as a microphone at all, so there's no option to even troubleshoot it there, or to pick it in the Control Panel.

Could this be an issue with the amount of volt the laptop gives? If so, is that fixable, somehow?

    Warm Regards,

    Cabagbe
