Something on my pc is limiting my download speed

So i had this problem for a few days now but i've only recently noticed it when i tried to download something from steam. My download speed caps at 1.5 mbps. I have a 1000 mbps plan from my internet provider so i found that weird so i ran a speed test. The results: Download speed under 15 Mbps while upload speed reaches 500 mbps ( 500 mbps upl is normal ).

I run a few tests with the internet provider support and the problem is not comming from them. I ran a speed test on another laptop i own and the Download and Upload speed both reach 500 mbps.

My take, something on this pc is limiting my Download speed, probably something installed with an windows update as the download speed was fine before. (never really had problems with downloading)

After googling for hours and trying various things, i still haven't found a solution, so my last option is writing this post in hopes someone can help.

    Hi,

temporarily disconnect any type of external device such as UPS, USB / Ethernet Hub, Dock Station, Desk Hub, eth IP Phones or Bluetooth / Thunderbolt devices from your computer. Keep only the PC connected to the internet.Uninstall any network optimization software or pc cleaning programs / utilities. If the problem persists, perform the Clean Boot procedure: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/41804-perform-clean-boot-windows-10-troubleshoot-software-conflicts.html

While in Clean Boot mode, check if the problem is resolved.

Hi, the Clean Boot procedure worked !

I narrowed it down and it was caused by a network driver updater app ( which i installed AFTER the problem started occuring, weirdly enough ). I am just happy it works now.

You made my day, thank you so much !

    Hi CristiGeorgian ,

    more details are needed:

    1. What version and build of Windows 10 are you running?
    2. What is your Firewall / Antivirus in use?
    3. Do you have a desktop or laptop PC?
    4. How do you connect, via LAN or WI-FI?Does the problem occur in both cases?

Meanwhile, try to reset the network: Settings> Network and Internet> Status, click Network Reset on the right side, follow the instructions.
