I have tried your instructions and they do not work for me.

Disabling the Realtek driver does not make the generic audio driver appear, even if I restart my computer afterwards.

Also I tried the instructions on the link you gave me under "6. Fix your audio drivers".

When I get to this step "4. Select the audio device whose driver you want to update, select Next, and then follow the instructions to install it." It is asking me to install the Realtek drivers again even though I deleted the driver software like the instructions told me to do.

    When this window appears.

No Microsoft generic audio driver appears. If I uncheck "show compatible hardware" then choose Microsoft then High Definition Audio, I am given a warning that if I install a driver that isn't compatible with my hardware it can break my computer, so I decided not to install those.

Also the forum thread you linked to me is not helpful to me, because

    1. I can't rollback my driver.
    2. The registry entry for

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Audiosrv is set to

    NT AUTHORITY\Local Service

    1. I don't use SoundMAX drivers so I can't simply copy the SoundMAX drivers from the internet or another computer and install them manually.

    So any other ideas?

generic driver is entirely different from customized driver from laptop or motherboard manufacturer.

generic drivers having less features with customized driver.

in Many cases generic drivers will not work.

so think twice before installing driver
