My Dell Latitude D630, for some reason, doesn't have a slider to change the brightness in the control panel. I can do it with the function keys, so I don't know what's wrong. What could be wrong?

Dell recommends using the function keys (User Guide p. 55), but it may also be possible to adjust screen brightness using the display driver.

From what I can tell, the Latitude D630 came with either onboard video using the Intel GM965 Express Chipset or an optional nVidia Quadro NVS 135M.  I also see that Dell did not supply any Windows 7 drivers for the Latitude D630.  There are suggestions that the Vista drivers be used instead:  https://www.dell.com/community/Laptops-General-Read-Only/Drivers-for-D630-for-Windows-7/td-p/4449896

There are several methods to access the display driver, which is where you'll find the brightness control -- if your display driver has that option.

With Control Panel view set to "small icons" or "large icons" rather than "Categoys"

Control Panel > Display > Change display settings > Advanced settings

This will get you to a "Properties" screen like the following.  Look for something similar to the "Intel HD Graphics Control Panel" -- this will of course be different if you have nVidia graphics.

If you see something like the above, click on "Graphics Properties, and you'll find brightness under the "Color" settings.

If you see something else, you'll have to hunt around for it.

Or ask in the Dell support forum:  https://www.dell.com/community/Latitude/bd-p/Latitude

Sorry, my mistake, but what I meant is that there is no brightness slider in the control panel. However the function keys work, so I don't know what's wrong, because this screen's brightness could be changed, please help!

So we can look up the exact specifications what is the Service Tag of the afflicted unit?

Did there used to be a slider to change the brightness in the Control Panel and now it is missing?

Some clever YouTuber says that you need to chose to edit your selected configured Power Plan to see the brightness sliders:

I don't have any other ideas but in your next reply do this so we can see what you have:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

    msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All (Ctrl-A), Copy (Ctrl-C) and then paste (Ctrl-V) the information back here in your next reply.

For video device and driver information, expand the Components, click Display, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here.

There will be some personal information (like System Name and User Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just delete it from the pasted information.

There is a brightness settings under the color settings, but by moving the slider it totally throws the color off, not the actual brightness of the device, please help!
