Hey! so I bought minecraft literally 3 days ago and it just stopped opening, like the launcher will not open. I saw somewhere here to delete everything and then reinstall, and when i went to delete the .minecraft folder, it says that it I can't delete it because it's already open in another program.. but I've literally deleted everything except this. First it said that it was open in minecraft launcher, now all it says is that it's open in another program. Please tell me if ive done anything wrong and help me because i really want to play again, as it's my friends birthday on the 20th and i need to build something for her. Please do help me!

    Hi again -

OK go back through and complete every step I gave. If unable to perform it then skip to the next one. One of them should work, if necessary uninstalling the app completely, restart PC, then reinstall from Microsoft Store app > Hub (three dots at top right) > My Library

Hi Swag. I'm Greg, awarded MVP for eleven years, Volunteer Moderator, and Independent Advisor here to help you until this is resolved.

You'd uninstall the game in Settings > Apps > Apps & Features, not delete it's folder - unless it doesn't delete after uninstall and restart. I'll include uninstall in the steps below:

See recent fixes for Minecraft not launching:

    https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/36...

    https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/2047...

    https://www.pcerror-fix.com/solved-how-to-fix-m...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmodX2peuEc

Even if you've already tried steps I give here, please do them over in sequence:

    1. Run the Store apps troubleshooter at Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
    2. Check for and install game Updates in Microsoft Store app > Hub (three dots at top right) > Updates.
    3. Try resetting Minecraft in Windows Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Minecraft > Advanced Options > Repair or Reset. Restart PC and try again.

If those all fail then uninstall Minecraft from Settings above, restart PC, reinstall from MS Store Hub (three dots at top right of Store app) > My Library.

    1. The Display driver is so important here that merely updating it is sometimes not enough. So let's try everything possible to get it working correctly:

Update the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

If this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

Adjust the screen resolution until it fits and looks best at Settings > System > Display.

    1. See if you can System Restore to a point before the problem began following this guide: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

System Restore is your first line of defense and can take you back to a point before a problem began. If it doesn't help then you can undo it. Read about it first in the tutorial above and then try restoring to just before this started.

If the problem repeats then check which Windows Updates were installed at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Update History, uninstall them there or System Restore again, then immediately check for and block the Updates with the Hide Updates tool explained here: https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta...

    1. If this was caused by a Version Update then for 10 days you can roll it back in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery and then hide it until it matures using the Hide Updates Tool which is explained more here:

    https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta....

If that doesn't work you can also Go Back in Repair Mode as shown here:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanc...

    1. If nothing else helps then contact Minecraft Support here:

    https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you'll wait to rate whether my post resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    hey Greg!

Thank you so much for taking some of your time to reply to me and help me! However, before I could even review your response, The Minecraft launcher degraded itself to the an older version. Due to this I cannot login because I think when this version was made, you could only use java accounts? I wouldn't really know since I only began playing this week. Anyways, when I do login with my Microsoft account it says that the password or the email is invalid, but I'm positive that I've been inserting the right thing. Once again, please do help me! I'm sorry if I wasted your time the first time, I didn't know this would happen.
