How can I type Arabic numbers on Windows 10?

Hello,

I'm an English speaker and recently started learning Arabic. I installed the Arabic language pack and can now type Arabic letters but it's not working for numbers. Numbers are always displayed in the English format.

To see what numbers I want please look at this wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern\_Arabic\_numerals. There is a picture of a clock. I want to type numbers in that format.

I searched the web for a solution and found a few suggestions but they don't work for me. For example I tried changing the display format for numbers: Settings > Time & Language > Region > under "Regional Format" select "Arabic (Jordan)". That changed the way the time and date are displayed in the toolbar but I still can't type Arabic numbers.

I also found specific solutions for Microsoft Excel but I'm working with a Google Docs document and with Notepad. The Excel solution is not applicable in those. In the future I might have to use other applications. Therefore I'm looking for a general solution for Windows 10.

Since there are 300 million Arabic speakers in the world there must be an easy solution to this, right?

Thanks for any pointers,

Jenny

In Setup under the options for the Arabic language you must click "Add a keyboard" (see below), then select whichever arabic keyboard you require. You can see their properties here.

    This solved my problem.

I installed the Central Kurdish keyboard and I can now type Arabic numbers using the numbers on the keyboard. It's still not working for the numbers on the number pad but I'll get used to not using these.

    Thank you so much, Frederik.

Thanks for your response, Frederik. I can't believe that everybody who wants to switch between English and Arabic is typing the Arabic numbers via ASCII code. I assumed that if I install the Arabic language pack I'd be able to type both, Arabic letters and Arabic numbers, but it's only working for letters. What am I missing?

I'm not sure what you mean by "install an Arabic keyboard layout". Can you elaborate, please?

    You can do this:

    1. Press NumLock
    2. Hold the Alt key
    3. Tap +660 on the numeric keypad for Arabic 0, +661 for 1 etc.
    4. Release the Alt key.

If you require a simpler method then you need to install an Arabic keyboard layout.
