By way of hardware, all you'll need is one 8 GB USB flash drive. USB 3 or USB 2, doesn't matter. Be aware that the Media Creation Tool (which creates the Windows installer on the USB flash drive) is going to erase the USB flash drive.
The Windows installer is designed to be straightforward and easy to use. It's designed for an average user (age immaterial). Microsoft's detailed instructions are here:
Start fresh with a clean installation of Windows 10
There are several ways to approach a clean install. There is no 'one right way' that works best. There are just too many variables. In addition, different people have different philosophies for using a computer. For example, computers are my hobby, so I approach a clean install with military precision. You don't need to be that way - I do that because I enjoy it.
You really shouldn't do a clean install unless your computer's hardware is supported on Windows 10. Otherwise, it's an invitation to frustration. I'll offer you two more suggestions, then send you on your way:
1- A clean install starts by effectively erasing your hard drive, so anything you don't backup is going to be lost.
2- Microsoft definitely has its preferences about how you should setup your computer, and you will notice that in the prompts you see. I suggest to just do it Microsoft's way. There's nothing about a Windows install that you can't change later if you want to.
Have some champagne ready to celebrate your victory!
