Windows Defaulting to Wrong Time Zone

This problem has been going on for over a month now.

Back in Dec 2020, I borrowed my brother's modem (he's from Brisbane). I live in Victoria. Ever since then, my computer seems to think it is in Brisbane.

Even when I set the time manually, after turning my computer off and back on it resets to Brisbane time. Normally I'd just roll with this, but since we're in DST and a lot of my day-to-day life is currently online, it's becoming a nuisance.

How do I fix this?

Thanks x

Hi, My name is Talita. I'm an Independent Advisor and I'll be glad to help you today.

To resolve the issue I ask you to apply the procedures below.

Press the Windows + R keys and type Control, click Clock, Language and Region and click Date and Time.

    Figure: Date and Time

Click the Date and Time tab.

Click Change time zone. Make sure the correct time zone is selected. Check the option Automatically adjust the clock for Daylight Saving Time, if it is not already selected, and click OK.

    Figure: Time zone settings

Click the Internet Time tab, and then click Change settings.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    Figure: Internet time guide

Make sure that Synchronize with an Internet time server is selected.

    Figure: Internet time settings

Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet and click the Update Now button.

The computer connects to an Internet server and updates the computer's time.

Click OK and try to use the computer for a few days.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

    Sincerely

    Talita C.

    Hi NeoBunny.

Try checking the Time Zone option at:

    Start/Settings/Time & Language/Date & Time

Set Time Automatically should be On.

Set Time Zone Automatically should be Off.

The Time Zone dropdown box should be set to your region.

Set Adjust Daylight Saving time automatically to On.

If you are still using your brother's modem, you may also want to check and see if the modem is set to the default 'Network Time'. That would require you to be able to log into the modem to check/change the settings, and you may want to check with your brother on that one. 😉
