Speedtest.net mystery

Here's a mystery involving a Dell 6420 notebook PC running Windows 10. It involves Ookla Speedtest.

Using the Windows 10 Speedtest app installed from the Microsoft store, that app shows no faster than 60mbps internet downloads. No matter whether I'm using a 5G wifi link or an ethernet cable, there's a 60 mbps speed limit using the Windows 10 Speedtest app. However, using a web browser connected to Speedtest.net, I get 5g wifi downloads of 150mbps,

Using another desktop PC I easily get 450 mbps downloads using the Windows 10 Speedtest app.

I've shared these results with Ookla speedtest. So far there's been no response.

Hi KH. I'm Greg, awarded MVP for eleven years, Volunteer Moderator, and Independent Advisor here to help you until this is resolved.

The Store apps are too new and undeveloped to trust for these functions which have always been settled by the internet web pages.

I'd use Speedtest.net from several browsers to find the average. You can use your choice of test as long as it's online and not some buggy app.

If you suspect you're not getting the speeds your paying for, you can optimize your router: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/ultim...

I hope this helps. Based on what you report back I can answer any questions and may have other steps to perform.

Followed your instructions, uninstalled the Speednet Windows 10 app, reinstalled the app from the Microsoft store then rebooted the Dell 6420. Then ran the Speednet Windows 10 app and got the same 60 mbps download results from the app. No change in results after following your instructions.

    Good Day KH55,

My name is Carlo, I'm an Independent Advisor and community member like you.

I am also using Windows 10 pc. Let us work together to sort this out.

Try to uninstall the app in the list of the apps.

Once done go to the Microsoft Store and re-download the application to get the latest updates from the app.

Restart your computer and try to run a speed test and check.

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.
