Canon scanner not detected

I have downloaded Canon IJ utilities driver for my Canon MG2950 scanner/printer from the Canon website. It failed to download by usb cable- many times ... but when by wifi it was successful.

All items of the IJ utilities download are visible on my computer but although the printer works fine, my computer fails to connect with the scanner. Error screen says 'unable to connect'... and 'scanner is OFF' ! Canon say that the error code indicates that Windows Defender firewall is the issue. How can I solve this ?

I have downloaded the Windows10 scanner driver and the scanner operates !

I wish to have the Canon scanner though.

Hi! My name is Anderson Souza. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you, I'll be glad to help you today.

You can test temporarily disable the windows firewall to see if it really is the problem.

It's important to have Microsoft Defender Firewall on, even if you already have another firewall on. It helps protect you from unauthorized access.

To turn Microsoft Defender Firewall on or off:

Select the Start button > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security and then Firewall & network protection. Open Windows Security settings

    Select a network profile.

Under Microsoft Defender Firewall, switch the setting to On. If your device is connected to a network, network policy settings might prevent you from completing these steps. For more info, contact your administrator.

To turn it off, switch the setting to Off. Turning off Microsoft Defender Firewall could make your device (and network, if you have one) more vulnerable to unauthorized access. If there's an app you need to use that's being blocked, you can allow it through the firewall, instead of turning the firewall off.

Note: If you get errors, or if the setting won't turn on, you can use the troubleshooter and then try again.

Ok. Locate the Canon utility on your start panel and click on it holding Ctrl + Shift on the keyboard. This will force the app to run as administrator.

    Thank you for your reply.

"The scanner is fine as it will function by the Windows scanner......" I think this information is crucial. You can scan from the Windows scanner app but not from the Canon IJ Scan Utility right?

Try the following. Open the Windows Start menu and search for de Canon IJ Scan Utility, see if in the right side of the menu there is an option called "Run as administrator". Try running Canon IJ Scan Utility as administrator and check if there is any progress, please.

Hi Anderson, thanks for your reply and suggestion. I turned the firewall off ... tried to scan.... still same error message ! Very frustrating. I shall also send this result to the Canon support team.

    Any other ideas ?

The scanner is fine as it will function by the Windows scanner......
