Where can I turn off autofocus for my Lifecam Cinema camera?

Microsoft site says with Windows 10 there is no additional software to install for Lifecam Cinema USB camera. However, I cannot find where I can make adjustments to the camera, such as turning off autofocus.

Any ideas?

Thanks

    Hi Fred,

So, you had your settings set to Pro mode, and you opened the Camera app, and clicked on the icon in the upper, right corner that switches between front and back cameras, and it did not cycle through with a third option: i.e. switch to front, switch to back, and switch to Lifecam.

If this is correct, then you can try getting the Camera app to find your camera using the options on this Microsoft page.

    Camera doesn't work in Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Or you can try turning off the Autofocus in the Skype app, and see if that setting will save after you leave Skype and open Zoom.

To turn off autofocus in Skype:

    1. Open Skype.
    2. Click on the more icon (. . .) in the upper, right.
    3. Click on Settings.
    4. Click on Audio & Video.
    5. In the upper, right corner, select your Lifecam camera from the drop-down. (If it's not there, then you're back to troubleshooting why your apps don't recognize your camera).
    6. Click on 'Webcam settings' link in blue letters.
    7. Click on the Camera Control tab.
    8. Uncheck the 'Auto' box next to the Focus setting.

    Hope this gets you there.

    Hi Fred.

Try using the Camera App and see if changing the setting there will carry over to when you're using Zoom.

    1. Open the Camera app.
    2. Click on the Settings icon.
    3. In Settings, click to turn Pro Mode ON.
    4. Close Settings, and you should now see three icons running down the left of the screen. Clicking the middle icon allows you to adjust the focus.
    5. Drag the slider up to disable autofocus, and adjust manually.

Hopefully, this will stay off when you leave the Camera app, and run the Zoom software.

    Hi Fred,

You'll still need to run software to adjust the camera settings. If you don't want to install the LifeCam software, you'll need to adjust the settings using whatever software you plan on using with your LifeCam, for example: the Windows Camera App, or the Skype app. If you can post back with the name of the software, we can tell you how to get to Settings in that software.

Assuming you have a LifeCam 5000 or 6000 series and you want to install the LifeCam software, you can find it here.

Get firmware, drivers, and software for Microsoft LifeCam cameras

And instructions on the Autofocus can be found in the forum here.

LifeCam Studio - I need camera controls, etc - Microsoft Community

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

I have a Lifecam Cinema, not a 5000, etc.. The website specifically says no additional software should be needed, but maybe that is erroneous.

Zoom does not seem to have a setting to turn off autofocus.

I'm wanting to turn off autofocus, because the camera keeps refocusing, even if I don't move. I've seen multiple other posts saying this is a bug with this camera that has not been fixed, even after reporting it for years. Recommendation is to turn off autofocus.

    Great!

You might want to indicate which item fixed it, in case someone else has the same problem.

That's what I needed. Looks like its working.
