Small window quickly opens and closes regularly

Hi,

I've had a persisting issue of some small window (roughly 500px by 500px) that opens and closes so quickly I can't figure out what it is and what is wrong. I just installed windows on this machine a couple months ago and I have not messed with installing any non-professional software.

All I know is the window comes up completely white before it closes, I have a hunch that it is either OneDrive or Outlook because I often experience buggy features from the two and the small size of the window resembles a windows prompt/tool.

Is there any way to monitor what has most recently closed to get to the source of the issue?

Thanks,

Cole

Thanks for the advice again. Just following up here as I found the bug. It was in fact a Microsoft software bug. It had stemmed from outlook. I was able to figure it out when I noticed that I wasn't able to send emails from the onedrive/windows account I switched over to recently. Something to do with switching my windows account confused outlook and I believe the window flashing open was an attempt by outlook to help me ressolve an issue.

Regardless, what I had to end up doing was completely uninstall office 365 and reinstall it and the issue went away.

Thanks again for the help. I'm gonna make a note of those Clean Boots! Those are helpful to know.

    Best,

    Cole

    Hi Prakhar Khare,

Thank you very much for the advice. The clean boot worked! Now I need to figure out which one of my 20-30 3rd party services is the problem. At the moment, I've lost all of my extra gpu, motherboard, camera and printer drivers along with other convenient extra services I had set up.

Regardless, I can manage for a little while without the services. My thought is every hour or so I slowly enable a couple services and perform the restart until I can dial in on which one is causing the bug.

If you have a better tip please let me know!

Hey BulldogXX, thanks for the advice! I actually performed a screen record to attempt that and I found that the window opens and closes so quick that there is no text in the window or on the window bar. It only has a black window bar and and a white screen. I also did a screen record with the task manager up and I think it opens and closes so quick that the task manager cannot even monitor it.

It looks like the clean boot worked though so now it's just a matter of figuring out which one of my 20-30 3rd party services is doing it.

If you can predict, more or less, when the command box will appear, aim your phone's video camera at the monitor and wait until it records the command box appearing. Then replay the video in slow motion until you see a clear picture of the command box's contents.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you see a small window popping on the screen. I will certainly try my best to assist you with the issue.

I would like to know, the build version of Windows 10 that you’re using currently.

Refer the article Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to try booting the PC in Clean Boot and see if the issue occurs. Refer the article How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Performing a clean boot will start thecomputer with minimal set of drivers and programs, to determine whether abackground program is causing the issue. Some of the Startup programs will notload after performing a clean boot on the computer. However, that functionalitywill return when you reset the computer to start normally after finishing thetroubleshooting.

If the issue doesn’t persists after performing Clean Boot, then please refer the section How to determine what is causingthe problem after you do a clean bootto identify the root cause of the issue.

Note: Please refer thesection Reset the computer to start normally after clean boottroubleshootingto boot the computer in to normal mode aftertroubleshooting

Let us know if you need any further assistance, we will be glad to assist you.

    Regards,
