Cannot set DNS Server in IP configuration

Hi all,

I'm trying to manually set the IP configuration on my Windows 10 (last build) PC. When I fill the field "Preferred DNS", I'm getting an error "Can't save IP settings. Check one or more settings and try again".

I tried to configure the DNS address also in the following ways:

  1. configuring the adapter IPv4 properties in Network Adapter Settings
  2. forcing the string Nameserver into the registry
  3. setting a DHCP reservation and trying to pass the DNS server address through a DHCP parameter
  4. deleting and re-installing my network adapter and even changing the adapter with a new one.

None of the above workarounds resolved the problem. The outcome is always the same: IPCONFIG /ALL does not see my DNS server setting.

How can I verify if some software is interfering with my attempt to set a DNS server?

How can I resolve the problem?

    Hi,

    I think you're just doing this in the wrong place.  Change the Network Adaptor rather than the whole system.

    In the Network Status page, click Change Adaptor Options.

    An explorer window should open it will will usually show all of your network adaptors, for me it has the Bluetooth, Ethernet and Wifi adaptors.

    I'm using Ethernet so I double click on that and then select Properties.

    In the list of protocols, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and Properties.

    Now you can update the values you want to.

    Repeat for IPv6 and/or any other adaptors you want.

    Please do try flushing your DNS cache and see if this can help fix the issue.

    1. Open the command prompt with administrator privilege then type or copy and paste the command below.

    ipconfig /flushdns

    1. Once you successfully flush the DNS. Reset the TCP/IP settings by typing the command below

    netsh int ip reset

    1. Once done reboot your PC then try to set the IP again.

    I am sorry that none of the fixes above solve the issue. It seems a little more complex than we expected, I will open up this case with other community experts, Maybe someone else will have a solution for you.

    Hi,

    I tried as you suggested.

    No result. The error is still there.

    Let me say I did not expect anything different, since I even tried changing the Network Card to verify if this was an hardware problem. With a fresh new Network Card and configuration I obtained the same erroneous result.

    May I verify, is there a DHCP configured on your router? If yes, what is the range IP of the DHCP setup.

    Also instead of 10.0.0.111, have you tried changing the IP address lower than 100. Let say 10.0.0.99 or lower

    Hi Van,

    yes, there is a DHCP and the scope is set for addresses 10.0.0.120 to 10.0.0.200. I also set DNS Server as a parameter passed with the DHCP configuration.

    I tried with 10.0.0.77. Same error.

    Consider I have other PCs in the same network, some with fixed IP and some receiving IP address and config from the same DHCP, and none of them is presenting the same problem.
