Wi-fi connected but lock sign is still there

When I connect to my wifi, even after inputting the password, I am still getting a locked sign, as in the picture below.

It's badly affected my internet speeds (my other devices at home do not have a lock sign and have download speeds of 400Mbps, while this laptop runs at 6-20Mbps).

I've updated my wifi drivers and I'm using the correct ones (I've checked those).

I can't manually configure my IP as I'm using a dynamic IP address.

Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?

    Hi lohlohlow ,

the padlock symbol next to the wi-fi icon simply indicates that that network is password protected and has no relation to the speed of the network. What is your Firewall / Antivirus in use? If you connect your laptop to the router via network cable, is the speed still slow?

    Hello lohlohlow

Thanks for reaching out! My name is Fred I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

Sorry for what happened to you I will try to help you.The lock symbol next to the wifi symbol indicates that the network is password protected and maybe the others device don't show this information.

Internet speeds depend on the characteristic of the wireless card and the distance from the router or access point and the controller, among other things, I can see in your image the signal is poor, try moving your laptop closer to the router or point access.

Also, see documentation from the Microsoft page as a reference to different issue related to wifi:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix...

Did you update the latest drivers from the manufacturer page?

To find your model and manufacturer see the instruction.

    Press Windows + R

Then type Dxdiag and hit enter

Under the System tab, you will be able to see the System Model number.

After that do a search on the manufacturer page and download the wifi driver and the others like BIOS, Chipset and install it.

I hope this information is useful to you.

    Best Regards,

    Fred
