Realtek RTL8812BU Wireless LAN 802.11ac USB NIC - Adapter "dies" after trying to connect

Hello, I recently contracted a new ISP (with a new modem/router) and my Wi-Fi Adapter can't seem to connect to it (can connect just find to the old networks). All my other devices connect to it no problem, and if I use an ethernet cable I can connect too, the only problem is my PC's Wi-Fi adapter. If I try to connect to it, the adapter shows "This device cannot start, error code 10" making it so that I have to reconnect it and try again.

I found this thread https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking/constant-wi-fi-problems/8788d23c-c1ed-4c8c-be1b-8333f9105b0b?page=1

In which there's 2 solutions, however these didn't quite work for me.

Solution 1: SteveNPhx's post. Making sure that Realtek is the driver provider instead of Windows. I did this, and I keep having the same issue.

Solution 2: Corey Ford's post. Disabling the option of "Support QoS", now, eventhough this sort of work and makes it so my adapter is able to connect to the network, the speed is seriously decreased (to about 10% of what it actually is) so it's not really a great option.

I would really appreciate some help fixing this issue. I already tried the "latest driver" both from Windows and one directly downloaded from Realtek's website.

Hi Roberto. I'm Greg, awarded MVP for eleven years, Volunteer Moderator, and Independent Advisor here to help you until this is resolved.

Have you asked for help from the new IP? Their monthly bill provides Support to get your connected and the speeds you're paying for. They can at least help you optimize the settings in your new router. If not I'll provide a good guide for that later.

I'll give you everything that works to fix Wifi so that at least something will work. Even if you've already tried a step please try or check it again in sequence. If you need any assistance I'll be standing by here to help:

Update your network adapter drivers from the PC maker's Support Downloads web page using the full model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

If you have the latest network driver then try on it's Driver tab also to Roll Back, or Uninstall and then restart PC to reinstall the driver. Try also all older drivers from Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick list working backwards.

Go to Device Manager > Network Adapters, select Wifi adapter, then Power Management tab, clear the check box to "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save energy." Then on the Advanced tab disable any energy-saving options.

If this was caused by Windows Updates then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall them from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool explained here:

    https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=&...

You can also use System Restore to get before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them: https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=&...

If this was caused by Version update then you can roll it back in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery and then hide it until it matures using the Hide Updates Tool.

For Wifi won't connect issues after Version 1903:

    https://www.translatetheweb.com/?ref=TVert&...

    https://www.translatetheweb.com/?ref=TVert&...

    https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&...

Enable IPv6 in the network adapter settings:

    https://www.translatetheweb.com/?ref=TVert&...

Run the fixit from https://support.microsoft.com/help/929852 (Re-enable IPv6 on all nontunnel interfaces) and reboot.

Right click the network icon in System Tray at bottom right end of task bar to Troubleshoot Problems.

    Try all of these steps:

Fix network connection issues in Windows - Windows Help https://www.translatetheweb.com/?ref=TVert&...

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > WIfi > Manage Known Networks, highlight and remove the network having problems, restart PC to see if it shows up again.

Try plugging in by ethernet cable to the router to compare, then plug the ethernet cable into the modem (if separate) to see if this might be an issue with the router.

Try powering off modem, router and PC and then restarting in that order with 1 minute in between each. You may need to reset your router or even optimize it following these steps:

    https://www.translatetheweb.com/?ref=TVert&...

    https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&...

Your router manual is always available from the manufacturer's website for your exact model.

You also are entitled to Support from your internet provider to get online on all devices. This is always included in the monthly bill. If your router is less than a year old they will also Support getting it connected and optimized.

Another option is you could replace the wireless adapter with an inexpensive USB nano adapter like this one:

    https://www.amazon.com/OURLiNK-600Mbps-Wireless...

If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, and is also the most stable method to advance to the latest version. http://windows.microsoft.com/fr-fr/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you will wait to choose if I resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Hi Roberto,

I am having similar problems to you although I think I have a different wi-fi card. I noticed that I had lost packets every time I initiated a download. The only fix I have found is to disable the "Microsoft Wi-FI Direct Virtual Adapter", this means you will loose some windows 10 functionality (project to wireless display), but I have notice that the problem goers away once disabled and come immediately back again when enabled. You will need to disable it rather than uninstall it as windows will keep re-installing. To find it in Device manager you will need to have show hidden devices on in the View tab at the top.

    Cheers,

    Philip

    Hello!

Unfortunately asking for the ISP's help is not going to work because... reasons.

I have the latest (or more like ONLY driver)

I can't do Driver Rollback as there's only one existing driver https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/rtl8812bu-software

    There were no Windows updates.

    >>> I had already tried unchecking the "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save energy." and having the PC on highest performance power plan. |||||| >>>> I had tried the "uncheck" before, but not putting the PC on highest performance. At first the adapter had the same error, but after removing and putting it back on it seems to have connected without issues. Let's hope it stays like that even after a restart.

Thank you for your help, I hope it keeps working without issues.
