Upgrade old Company laptop on Windows 7 Enterprise to Windows 10

Hello, my company is allowing me to keep my old laptop for my daughter's homeschooling during Covid Lockdown.

I have been given the administrator password. The laptop is a Dell Latitude E7240.

It has run Windows 7 Enterprise and I want to upgrade to Windows 10 home. As it has been removed from the company network, my IT Department can't help me. When I try to use a Windows 10 key a message say this cannot be supported. I am unable to wipe or restore the laptop back to factory settings although I would be happy to.

Please can anyone advise on next steps?

Windows 7 Enterprise was never a part of the normal way to upgrade to 10.

Windows 7 Enterprise to Windows 10 Enterprise was done by Software Assurance as part of their Volume Licensing, via your System Admin.

If you want to go from 7 Enterprise > 10 Home it has to be done by a clean install.

First thing to do is to make sure that you have the correct system requirements and that your Computer Manufacturer supplies the correct Drivers for 10 for your Model Number.

If you read those Microsoft's system requirements for 10, you will find that if you only go on them you will be sadly disappointed in performance.

For reasonable performance should have at least:

2 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor.

4 gigabyte (GB) of RAM for 32-bit or 8 GB for 64-bit

    500GB hard drive

DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
