Hello everyone! I've plugged in a Keyboard to my computer and found out that it wasn't working properly, none of the keys were reacting when I pressed them.  When I went to Settings - Devices, I've found out that under the keyboard there was a message saying "Installation is blocked by group policy", any idea on how to fix this issue? Thanks in advance!

    Hi David,

Thank you for reaching back. I am sorry that didn't work out too. Check if you have this entry in your computer's registry.

    1. Press Windows key + S, this will open search
    2. Type regedit
    3. Navigate to this path:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceInstall\Restrictions

    1. Delete the keys under Restrictions of you have any.

Might as well refresh your USB root hub drivers. Here's how:

    1. Press Windows key + X
    2. Open Device Manager
    3. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers
    4. Uninstall all instances of USB Root Hub
    5. Reboot your computer.
    6. Check if it made a difference.

    Let me know what happens.

    Hi David,

Thank you for the update. See if you have any group policy set in your computer. I assume you are the only one using it and didn't set any restrictions.

    1. Press Windows key + S
    2. Enter this path: %windir%\system32\grouppolicy
    3. The Group Policy folder is hidden, if it doesn't show, click View and place a check on the box for Hidden items
    4. Open the Group Policy folder, delete the GPT file and reboot your computer.
    5. Test your device again, disconnect and reconnect it.

    Let me know what happens.

I don't have such folder there, there are two folders in total - User and Machine and a single file which is gpt, is that the one that I need to delete?

Hi JhakeSong, thank you so much for the reply!

No, I don't think so. This issue just started happening recently, I've tried your steps but that unfortunately did not help, the issue still persists.

    Hi David,

Good day! This is Jhakesong an Independent Advisor and I will be happy to assist you with this.

Is your computer part of a domain group? Check the group policy settings if there is one set that is blocking this. (Gpedit is available on Windows 10 Pro. )

    1. Press Windows key + S, this will open search
    2. Type gpedit and press enter
    3. Navigate to this path:

Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | System | Removable Storage Access

    1. "WPD devices: Deny write access" is not enabled
    2. Also, navigate to this path:

Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | System | Device Installation | Device Installation Restriction

    1. "Prevent installation of devices using drivers that match these device setup classes" is not enabled.

Let me know how it goes. Have a great day!
