Certain programs won't open on my computer.

Hi, I've recently been having a problem with my computer where certain programs won't open at times. So far I've had problems with Blender, After Effects and GIMP, if I restart my computer, these programs will work just fine, but other times, they just won't open. The loading screen will come up, but the programs themselves would immediately close down.

I'm not really sure what's going on here, if anyone could help I would appreciate it, thanks.

    Good Day yokes356,

My name is Carlo, I'm an Independent Advisor and community member like you.

I am also using Windows 10 pc. Let us work together to sort this out.

Here's the steps you can try.

    Perform a cleanboot.

    1. Open the run box by pressing the Windows Key + R and type msconfig
    2. System Configuration Utility box will open and by default you are on general tab.
    3. On the General tab, click the selective startup and make sure that load system service and load startup items both have checked mark.
    4. Click on services tab
    5. Put a check mark on Hide All Microsoft Services
    6. Once Hide all Microsoft Services have checked mark on it, click on Disable All
    7. Click on the Startup Tab and click open task manager. This will open another window which contains all your startup applications on the administrator account.
    8. Disable all application that you're not using. You can simply just click on them and select disable.
    9. Click OK, Apply and close the configuration utility
    10. Restart your pc

Once your computer is done restart, right click on the app that you want to open and run it as administrator.

If issue persist, you can try to uninstall and re-install the app check to get the latest update of the app.

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.

Update: I noticed a few things about this problem.

Firstly, I was able to fix it initially with sfc /scannow (it said my computer had corrupted files and as soon as I restarted my PC, things were fine). However, when this issue happened again earlier today, sfc /scannow came back with nothing. I restarted my PC however and things are working fine for now.

Secondly, I think this issue may be linked to me doing tasks which are heavy on my PC, which somewhat leads me to believe that either my CPU, RAM or GPU are the culprits here. I'm thinking it's most likely the GPU though, since the issue happened right after I updated my graphics driver recently.

It's still only these three programs which are affected as far as I know.

If anyone could help me out I would be thankful.
