Hello

My desktop files disappeared after windows 10 update. I also, lost my thunderbirds email account setting, as well as most of the shortcuts on the desktop. Fortunately I found my desktop files at the user count folder in drive C. I started over and setup my email on the thunderbired again and had some folders on the desktop. After having  windows10 updated, something happened again, but this time i lost my desktop folders (got deleted this time) and thunderbird setting. I dont know whats wrong with windows10 update. Please help!!

Note: I have kaspersky total security antivirus, I dont know if this causing any conflict with windows10.  I used to have kaspersky for years and never had these problems.

Please answers

    Hello Dave,

Thank you for the response. When I updated windows 10, my desktop files disappeared.  I also, lost my thunderbirds email account setting (no email account was left on my thunderbirds), as well as most of the shortcuts on the desktop and even my windows languages that I added long time ago. I looked for my desktop files and I found them in my user folder in drive C. what i did, was to move all my desktop files and moved them to a safer place (drive D). I set up my emails on thunderbirds again, added the languages again, created new shortcuts for word, excel, etc. After two weeks, the window10 was updated and the same thing happened once I again (desktop files disappeared, thunderbird emails was gone plus the windows languages. But this time I didn't find the missing file in the user folder in drive C like the previous time. To cut this short, the same thing happened with me may be 5 times till now (when I get windows10 update). This has been very frustrating, I am so very disappointed about Microsoft windows.

I don't know what to do to fix this issue!!!

Were those files situated in the desktop?

    If so, do this:

Right-click an empty space in the desktop and choose View, then select Show desktop icons.

    Tell us the results.

I don't think this may solve your issue.

    Hi EsamAziz

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

I am unclear, did your files disappear after one Windows 10 update, then you found them and moved then into their correct folders, and then after a restart your files disappeared again?

If so, what happened is you were logged into a temporary profile after that update and what you did is move your files form your own user profile folder into the Temporary user profile, and when the Temp Profile was deleted, so were all your files along with the temp profile

When that original Temp profile was created, the general fix to restore your user profile is:

Restart (not shut down) your PC 4 times, each time let your PC get to the Desktop before the next restart, this will fix this issue a lot of the time . ..

Yu can try that, if your files are not restored, you will need to use a 3rd party recovery utility to try to get your files back . . .
